I'm wondering if you guys on AH use a standard threat reporting format.  The one I'm used to goes like this:

(Callsign)
Action
Bogey/Bandit
Clock Code
Distance
Elevation
Fret (threat level)

e.g

"(Spong)
Continue
Bogey
2 o'clock
10 kms
level
low threat"

or....

"Spong
Break right
Bandit
3 o'clock
6 kms
level
tipping in
high threat"

Once you're used to using it, it's quite handy and concise for SA.

However, you guys may have your own way of doing business.

Radar Bogey {Map position} -- to determine flight path

Visual Bogey {position [bearing]}{altitude} -- when first into visual range

Tally {plane type} @ {position}{bearing}{altitude} -- when in icon range.

When informing a squadmate/countrymate:
{Callsign} bogey @ {position}{bearing}{altitude}{action}

Erm.... "Check 6" is about as near as we get - if you're lucky!  :D

That method sounds terribly complicated, and I doubt there would be much time, in most cases, to go through a full repetoire!  By the time I would have worked everything out, you would be back in the tower....  :)

It really isn't as complicated as it looks.  It usually goes something like this:

jonnyb: Tango, we have a radar bogey at 11.11.3, suggest altering flight path to intercept.

Tango: Roger that jonnyb

Tango: jonnyb, visual bogey 3 o'clock.  Altitude approximately 12k bearing unknown.
jonnyb: copy Tango, visual.

Tango: jonnyb, tally 109 3 o'clock @ 13k, bearing 280.
jonnyb: Roger that, Tango.  Bracketing to his left...

and so on ;)

Yeah, we use something like that.  With icons we don't need distance, and with screen resolution, we usually can't tell what the ship is doing.

"Dot" and "Con" are often used instead of "Bogey" and "Bandit".
Since the odds of getting bounced are very rare and icons are very informative, actions tend to be separated from threat reports:

Bike, Break Right
as bike breaks, he'll visually acquire the bandit's icon and know the rest of the story.

So reports are used by the folks I fly with almost always without an action.

"dot twelve low"
"radar con, 10 oclock"
"con two ock high"

I usually end up saying:
"no joy, you lead"
followed by
"tally, press"
and
"good kill"

way to overcomplicate things, as long as you think you sound cool i guess.

btw seagoing vessels have bearings, aircraft have vectors. sorry to blow your whole system apart. :D

 Directive Calls

Abort -Cease action/attack/mission.

Anchor -Orbit about a specific point or location.

Blow Through -Continue straight ahead at the merge, take a shot if available, but don’t turn with the bandit.

Bracket Left/Right -Turn left/right to maneuver to a position on opposing sides of bandit.

Bugout direction -Separate for low fuel, loss of tactical advantages or accomplishments of mission objectives; intent is to permanently separate and return to friendly territory

Combat Spread -Spread out from the leader with about 1,000 ft separation.

Form-up Left/Right -Form up on leader with about 500 ft separation.

Comeback position -Reposition (left/right/high/low, or a combination of).

Cover -Stay in support position.

Daisy Chain -Get in trail of the leader about 2,000 ft behind in preparation to B&Z a bandit.

Disengage -Discontinue the current attack.

Divert -Proceed to alternate mission/base.

Duke It Out -Meet the enemy head on to engage.

Engage -Attack bandit.

Extend direction -Directive to gain energy and distance with the intent of re-engaging.

Grab -Gain altitude.

Hook Left/Right -Perform a same altitude 180 degree turn.

Pitch Left/Right -Perform an ascending 180 degree turn.

Slice Left/Right -Perform an descending 180 degree turn.

Snap direction -Immediately turn to the stated direction.

Status -Request for an individual's tactical situation; response is normally "offensive," "defensive," or "neutral".

Wide Spread -Spread out from the leader with about 2,000 ft separation.

 Descriptive Terms

Bandits -Enemy aircraft.

Bogeys -Unidentified aircraft.

Chicks -Friendly aircraft.

Fence -Boundary separating hostile and friendly areas.

Furball -A turning fight involving multiple aircraft.

Home Plate -Home airfield.

Perch -Position from which an attack can be launched or wingman can be covered.

Post Hole -Rapid descending spiral.

Deck -Very low altitude.

 Informational Calls

Attacking -You are attacking a ground target.

Bingo Fuel -You must return to base for fuel.

Clear -You have broken off from the bandit and not in danger.

Defensive -You are engaged with the bandit but you are on the defensive and need assistance.

Dragging -You are being chased by bandit.

Engaging -You are proceeding to engage.

Feet Wet/Dry -You are flying over water/land.

Heads Up -Enemy got through; no kill.

Hot -Call made by wingman indicating he has visual, tally, and a clear path to the bandit and is in an advantageous position to engage.

Incoming -Bandits are approaching.

Locked -You are engaged with no clear advantage and not in a position to disengage without exposing yourself to a shot.

Negative -Transmission understood but cannot comply.

Pushing -You have the advantage over the bandit and you are “pushing” for the kill.

Roger -Transmission understood (and will comply).

Running -You are disengaging the bandit and trying to get clear

"(****&*&&^!!!!!" <---- This means I have once again suckered myself into an impossiable situation and as a result I am dead.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Our squad coms usually sound more along those sort of lines, thats when the channel isnt full of someone quoting from Monty Python movies or Hotshots , singing , laughing or taking the piss out of each other :)

We die a lot, but its a hoot!
