MIDWAY NEWS FLASH - A Victor is Declared.
« on: November 10, 2002, 04:38:32 PM »
Date - June 4th 1942

Reporting from Hawaii is our own Terry "Doc" Savage

A new dawn has broken for the US Navy and her valiant pilots.

With just 12 hours to get over the loss of 2 carriers and the realization that today was a make or break day for the United States - the outcome was too murky to see.

At Dawn The US had Scout information of the possible location of 1 or more IJN Carriers. The Men and Pilots at Midway awaited the eventual Attack and possible invasion of the small bit of sand they occupied that would mark another advance in the Japanese relentless and unstoppable advance or the Line drawn in the sand that said - we will fight HERE !

Both sides knew each would do all it could to sink and kill the opposing fleets and planes.

The first Definitive reports by the Midway Scouts came trickling in within 30 mins of day break. It turns out the B17's from Midway would make the first attack of the day. As the bombardiers looked through their bombs sights they saw TWO IJN Carriers and escort ships maneuvering wildly trying to avoid the bombs from the B17's Splashes could be seen falling all around the careening Carriers. The B17 pilots reported some hits on both Carriers.

Midway reported some small attacks against her defenses but nothing major like they expected.

Next to find the IJN Carriers were the Dive Bombers and Torpedo Bombers. The air was thick with AA Smoke and tracers from the ship reaching out with their deadly touch. The Torpedo bombers made the first attack - they reported some hits on the Carriers but that they were still active and launching planes even in the middle of a BATTLE. The Diver bombers came in next. Using the Real life practice they received at the Battle of Coral Sea they knew that every bomb counted. And they made sure they did. With the combined hits of the B17's and the TBM's and the SDB's within minutes BOTH IJN CV's were slowly slipping beneath the surface.

Still there were no reports of a major attack on Midway . This could mean only one thing - an all out attack against the Hornet herself. Earlier they had shot down a scout plane so they figured the IJN knew where she was. Reports stated coming in from the Picket fighters of 4 or 5 waves of VALS. Radar picked them up and the Hornet sent into a series of ZIG ZAGS to through off their aim. At this point the IJN Pilots knew they had no place to land so they were determined to try and make every drop count.

As the VALS came in wave after wave the CPA at hornet did their bettor harass and kill as many as possible. Due to the Weaving of the Hornet just a few bombs hit her deck - most fell harmlessly ( except for the fishes ! ) to one side or another.

Everyone waited  till the last bomb feel and looked across the sea - and there she was - with some smoke and battle damage to show her scars - but should still steam on her own and defend herself.

-------------

The US lost 2 Carriers and the IJN Lost 4 Carriers. The IJN was not able to close or capture Midway.

The final out come is a COMPLETE USN Victory

CONGRATS TO ALL WHO PARTICIAPTED.

We will start over and let both sides catch their breathes and do this all over again.

Frame #3 will be at Nov. 16th 3:00 PM ( 8:00 PM UTC ).

Plan to be there an HOUR EARLY.

More info to follow.

THANKS !
