The mighty 457th (2 of us ) Took off in B17s airstart
was flying along way behind main force. When we heard that the 880th was all shot dn .

So me and Aleng decited to head directly to sec target
we were flying Drinking talking haveing a good time .

When at our 11oc hight we saw many dots Lots of em
looked like fleas on a tick >(southern expression )

Turned out to be 500 FW 190s they came in on us from every where we to guns shot all the the sky but the odds were against
us and i found myself in a big hole in the ground ..Sigh!! had to go fix another drink .. and have dreams bought them 500 190s
woke up this morning thinking it was all just a dream >>sips drink<< ill feel better after nap

FWIW, I enjoyed the challenge of creating the orders for allied side this week. It was tough to fit into my schedule, and I made a critical error in the spawn point which caused our first few squads to launch from ground instead of the 30k airstart. Hehe. Sorry bout that.

I'm just happy we hit both targets and we actually had several buff formations RTB instead of losing them all as in the last frame. THe opposition was tough and we lost a LOT of people, but we accomplished the mission... at least in the south. Dunno how the dock raid went.

On another note, I find it interesting that the CMs publicized the allied targets prior to getting started. It's kinda funny how they set this up. The Germans have RADAR. Why the heck should they also know what targets we're hitting? I don't think 8th AF command sent a telegram to Berlin saying "today our target will be Regensburg" before sending out a raid... as a courtesy. Sorry, but that's tipping the scales a bit too much for me.

I just finished reading a book about JG26, and I got the impression the allies never really surprised the Germans. Between their radar and ground controllers the RAF and 8th AAF never managed to hit something unexpectedly.

What I thought was interesting was the axis has a higher K/D and the allied hit fewer ground targets this week than last, yet you managed to land buffs.

Personally I think everyone did a phenominal job.

Enjoyed it with lots of positive comments from squadies.

We were slotted to fly B-17's and had an air start which put us north of Wilhemshaven. At 75% fuel and 500 lb bombs I was losing my drones at 26k. If I recall we went down to 24k so we could keep together.

Escorts did a good job and the long road to A19 provided lots of action. We lost a few buffs, but most of us made it to the target with a successful drop. We then turned SW and headed for Duseldorf and the factory near their. Another long run just under the clouds. banana was behind the group and was jumped by Me-110's which took him out. The skys cleared about 1/2 way to our 2nd target the was socked in again but with a lower cloud cover. We had to come down several thousand feet, (17k I think). We broke out just in time to make a run. I dropped on target and as did puke who dropped with me. No one else had time to calibrate. Several targets were destroyed and we headed home. Swagger wanted to make another run since he did not have time to line up and we were turning to do so when a 190 came on the sceen. He went after ghosth who turned away from the group to draw the enemy. I gave the order to turn north and RTB. On the way 3 Me-110's came after puke and I. All three came dead our 6 and closed slowy. Our gunners had a field day and two of 110's were seen crashing to the ground. Midnight came on and saved the day after that because another 110 was coming in quickly and I think the 190 was closing. Both puke and I landed and swagger did a few minutes later with just seconds to spare.

Mongrels did an awesome job of keeping it together through a heavy defense. I'm still amazed that they, after discovering the primary target socked in, decided to go below the cloud layer and hit the target, rather than just turn off to the next target. But they did, and hit the city hard:
