Detonator driver problem
« on: January 02, 2003, 10:00:15 PM »
I'm just curious to see if anyone has a solution for a problem I'm having.  I've been using the Detonator 21.83 drivers for quite awhile with no problems.  But just this week I decided to install B17 II again, just to mess around with it, could only play for couple minutes then it would freeze and force me to reboot using reset button.   Well after reading a little over at bombs-away.net I decided that maybe new video drivers might do the trick, so I looked around again and decided to give the 30.82 drivers a try.  I went through the whole procedure, uninstalled the 21.83 ran Det Destroyer, rebooted PCI Standard Display(VGA), shut off anti-virus, installed 30.82s rebooted, reinstalled directx 8.1 and then rebooted again.

At this point everything seemed fine, set my desktop settings and then tried to fire up AH.  All I got was a light blue screen that I could alt-f4 out of.  I tried another direct3d game and that one locked my computer up.  So I went to dxdiag and tried to run the direct3d test, that also forced me to reboot.  Pretty much think I had no direct3d capability.  So for a second I was a little worried, but I went through the whole thing again and put the 21.83s back on.  They worked fine.

I then tried the 30.82s again just to see if I missed a step, but no luck.  I'm back on the 21.83s everything runs fine and looks good.  I could really care less if I can't get B17 II to run again, but it bugs me that I couldn't get those 30.82s to run.  Anybody have any ideas?  Any advice would be appreciated.

I thought about giving a later version of detonators but seemed that people had the best to say about the 30.82s in comparison to some of the latest releases so I figured why bother??  Also afraid of messing something up even worse, with ToD starting back up tomorrow that would be bad. :)

Thanks in advance

just an fyi, every time i get the light blue screen, it's because i'm either alt-tab'n before ah loads or have another task running that is getting the focus while ah is loading.

i'm using det 40.72 drivers.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I messed around with the drivers again this weekend and just couldn't get the 30.82s to work so I gave  41.09 a try, they gave me a better 3dmark score and better images in some of benchmark tests.   They seem to work fine with AH too and as an added bonus B17 II also works now :)

Thanks again.
