Hard Drive Repair
« on: January 07, 2003, 12:36:23 AM »
ok guys, brain storm for ya...

I have a 40 GHD that has a bad section on it...when running scandisk on "thorough" it gets to a point then just starts "clicking" like an old broken record...

Heres my question...

Do they make repair software for this? OR..........

Is there a way to partition this part out? since i have a slave 30GHD? if so, how do u find the bad sector or whatever and partition it so that the system operates normally...WITHOUT having to take out the HD and re-installing or replacing for now?

any ideas?

Throw your hard drive away, skip lunch tomorrow, and buy a new 40GB drive with the money you saved.  Seriously, if you've definitely got bad sectors on that drive, just toss it - it'll likely get worse.

RMA the piece of crap.
When they start clicking there is nothing you can do.  It's an electromechanical problem, not a data problem.

What brand is it?  I've had a pile of Western Digital drives fail on me recently.

I had this problem once.  It would hang up scandisk and Nortons. I found a repair program that came on the floppy disk that came with the drive.  I think it was Western Digital.  It fixed the problem.

If you can't find your disk, you can DL it here:

Western Digital

This will only work on Western Digital drives.

Good Luck.
