What killed me?
« on: January 14, 2003, 08:41:31 PM »
Uneditted film attached. This was the second time I'd died to suspicious pings, what the hell is it? manned ack? Nearest one is over 3.5k away as far as I can tell, I thought I'd be well out of range. I didn't exit, I blew up btw.

So. what killed me?

And if it is manned ack... so be it. what's the range of it so I can avoid it next time?

Hmm i have heard that manned ack range is 6k.  Although my furthest kill with manned ack was probably 4k (It was a group of buffs) and my furthest kill in manned ack for a lil fighter is 2k.  There is really no way to avoid the ack if you are unaware of it :)  Only thing you can do is get outta dodge or kill it.

Wldthing you got your measurements wrong.

When you see a plane that is say 455 in front of you that is 455 yards.  So when i said 4k that means 4000 yards which is  12 thousand feet.  You got your yards and feet mixed up :)

if you were 12 thousand yards up your would be up at 36 thousand feet.

tailgnr,

Distance is in yards, but we always talk altitude in feet.

I know that... That's what i said i was just saying that he thought that when i said that 6k was the range of the ack he said "6k i wish" he said he was shot up at 12k i was just showing him that 12,000 feet is less that 6 thousand yards (6k).

I only talk about altitude in feet and I measure distance to planes in yards because that's how hitech has it.

And you say that 6 thousand yards isnt the acks range because you were up at 12,0000 feet IMO the range of ack is about 18,000 feet

You can take a GV, drive right under the point where the drones fly and you'll notice that the distance is D1.0 (actually D999) as it passes over.  Since the drones always fly at 3K above the field, that means the ack can actually reach up fairly far.  I've seen manned ack kills out to about D3.0, which would be 9K straight up.  I think manned ack can fire out to about 4K (~12K straight up).

Honestly, anything over D1.2 or so is a pretty lucky shot on a crossing target.  At least that's my experience.  Anything with D800 or so though can be easy pickings... lotsa people can make you pay for flying within D1.0.

Always shoot that manned ack down!! More deadly than the AI ack cuz tracers don't show.
