Upgraded PC now got probs...lol
« on: January 31, 2003, 04:04:39 PM »
PC -
Athelon Xp 2700
on ABIT NF7
with 512 ram
Windows Xp professional
GeForce 3ti500
Sound blaster Audigy ex

During AH play -the pc will reset itself......almost seems like graphics prob, but dxdiag shows all is fine.
Also have had a problem of loosing joystick...windows will say its not connected in device manager....I turn the machine off then back on and all is fine. When the joystick kicks out - ive noticed a steady freeze every 1/2 second or so...like having a framerate of 2....lol

any ideas???

Sounds like it could be heat related, or a plethora of other things.

Was it fine before the upgrade?
What did you upgrade?

I guess I should say I "built" a new pc. I'm running some heavy audio applications and needed a fast processor and lots of RAM (still not at 1.5gb yet...next paycheck..lol) So, I used to have a compaq 7994, but I pretty much bought the nf7, AMD2700, and another HD (dedicated audio) and had XP pro installed instead of home version. Oh yeah - put it in a new case :) - new pc pretty much. Basically salvaged the drives from the compaq.
Right now, I have my main drive formated as a basic disc, into 4 volumes. One for my OS, one for games, one for my applications (audio), and one for misc. The second drive,as I said, is purely for audio.

As far as the thermal probs, after a reboot, I've checked the temp.....all seems fine there in the setup. I'm just really confused about the loss of joystick recognition...That's throwing me for a loop......

Still confused and trying. Even after the PC has been off for awhile, and I boot up and goto AH - sometimes I get the reboot.
If this this is a thermal prob, could it be on the graphics card?
I run audio software (protools LE) and I haven't had a reboot from that...thats a memory/processor hog program too.......

But, I have noticed that a few times I've had a "recovery from seroius error" message from switching between users. Still, AH causes the reboot and loose of joystick recognition.

Will keep ya posted if I notice any other strange things that are happening.

Thanks

Aces High ran like a champ before the new hardware configuration. That was on the compaq 7994 - 900 athelon, 384 mb ram / win xp. no problems except the random CTD when picking a spawn point/runway direction.

If I click the button beside "set convergence" in the hangar menu, my pc also resets itself. During play it's fine, but hitting that button gets me a reboot.
