I know for some of you guys, it aint no biggie. But this weekend I saw my first real life B17. Actually three of them.

I took a family trip up to my brothers in Nashville this weekend, and we took our kids to the Smyrna Airshow. There were 3 B17's there. "Aluminum Overcast", "Sentimental Journey", and "Yankee Lady". Yankee Lady was the only one that was availabe for ya to climb aboard. (I came real close to forking over 300 bucks for a ride   )

When we got parked and saw the 3 B17's sitting there, I was like a little boy, had to get over there and give 'em a look see. I hardly noticed the C5 Galaxy between us and the 17's.   (I checked it out later)

I took the digital camera and threw togehter a lil webpage to post em too. Heres the link. It was raining some saturday and a couple pics are a lil blurred.

Was truly cool to actually climb aboard such a piece of history.

Btw the B-17 in Aces High had some touch ups done

New interior in the nose compartment, bomb racks in side the bomb bay, and a new texture for the Ma Duces. There's windows and gun mounts for the waist gunners too.

Or am I just seeing things? Figured someone besides me would of noticed it...must be everyone flying Lanc's

I went to the Warbirds museum in Kissimee, Florida where I too saw my first B-17.  I also saw an Fw190, F4u, and a pile of wreckage reported to be a P38.  The thing that most surprised me was the size of the B17.  It was so small!  I couldn't believe I wasn't looking at a scaled down model... and the bomb bay was like a large Cadillac trunk!

Hey there, I posted this last night.  I live in Wausau, WI and that aint too far from the EAA in Oshkosh.  The Aluminum Overcast is from the EAA (which if you havent guessed is in Oshkosh) and they tour the country in it.

Anyway my point, they flew the plane to my local airport and they were letting people walk through it, and man did I snap pics.  They were also offering rides (for the 300$ price, which included membership to the EAA).

Man I couldn't believe how small it was in real life too.  After watching Memphis Belle, (I know its hollywood and not real life) the B-17 always struck me as a roomy plane.  To get through most of the nose of the plane required crawling on your hands and knees, and man, I can really respect the poor guys who had to sit in the ball turret for 6-8 hours a day.  Needless to say it was a cool sight, and I recommend any warbird lover, if you get an opportunity to look through a B-17, DO IT!!!!!

Yeah, I got to walk through a 17, they are cramped, the walk way is what, two 2x4's? The ball turret is puny but the way you put your feet up in those stirrups and shoot from between your legs like that has gotta make you feel manly, lol
