Everyone is always posting about those missions that are perfectly executed and go way beyond expectation........ here's one not so good
No. 272 Squadron organizes for its squad night at a new time. (1st setback). Load up mission in mission planner, all going well so far. (2nd setback). Bishops the nice people they are, see the mission and start to fill the open spots. So, we start to organize a channel for everyone. (3rd setback). Then mission planner goes bad.
(Ops failure, 4th setback). Thinking quickly i try to get everybody in the mission to set up manually, and forget to tell them which field to take off of. (5th major setback). (btw this is an attack from a39, to a38, and dar was down at the very start, another miscalculation on my part.)
Ok, finally everyone is up, half the people in yellow for the mission planner that went bad, half people in green because mission planner went bad. Anyway, finally, everyone gets up, and we're all strung out. (6th major setback) we've lost surprise, the rooks are on to us and up in force. The lead elements of our force meet the rooks, and since they are bombers, scream for help.
(like i said, we were all strung out, and fighter coverage was way behind.).... issue order to regroup at a38 to reform, and half the guys didnt hear. Meanwhile 15 rook fighters are screaming down on us. Finally ended the catastrophe by being shot down myself, and ordering an abort mission.
Learn from our mistakes, folks!
(this should be humorous for all too, as im laughing as i post it.... )
Still it was great fun, and I appreciate all bishops trying to help out.
