Next SquadOp in the planning
« on: March 15, 2003, 11:39:16 PM »
Hi guys,

Daddog has given me the go ahead to design the next SquadOp, with his assistance. I intend it to be an early Russian/German contest over Crimea (Oct 1941). This poses a few problems for early Russian aircraft, however, I have worked out what I think are the best compromises with the aircraft that we have.

I plan on using the MC-202 as a substitute for the Mig-3 and Yak-1, the P40b as a substitute for the LaGG-3, the SBD for the Su-2 bomber and the Boston III for the SB-2 bomber. They aren't perfect, but they are the best fit for the early Russian aircraft.

I have posted a message on the TE forum to have the TE team develop a set of Russian skins for the following aircraft:

MC-202
P-40B
SBD
Boston III
IL2

I have colour profiles for the aircraft and will send them to whoever volunteers to do the skins.

The Germans will field Bf-109Es, Bf-109F4s, Bf-110Cs, Ju-87s, and Ju-88s.

The intial design is for Oct 1941, Odessa is surrounded but is holding out with help from the Black Sea Fleet. General von Manstein is trying to thrust south into the Crimean Peninsula so the LW will be attacking heavily Odessa and the northern Crimea, while keeping out the hordes of Russian aircraft. VVS-Crimean Front and the Black Sea Fleet will be holding Odessa and attacking with all they have while defending their territory and the fortress of Sebastipol.

The short distances to targets should keep the fights low and the action fast. Terrain will be Black Sea Summer.

If anyone has constructive suggestions please let me know.

I will keep you all up to date.

Thanks
