More threatening than any war....

This is very serious. It will spread very quickily due to the fact that Airliners now move bugs from point A to point B.  It has a level 1 Trauma unit here in Seattle on a heightened alert with meetings this week to determine how to isolate it and keep it from spreading, which is close to hopeless.

airplanes have always moved bugs all over the world, and unless your a smoker elderly or a little kid you really have nothing to worry about except maybe a week off work for sick leave.

Unfortunately, not in this case. The victims that have fell to it have been all ages.

Pneumonia is a lung infection which is usually bacterial but can be viral. SARS is atypical because it produces a dry, not wet cough, and does not have the all the symptoms of regular pneumonia.

"It is possible that this is a new disease. We can't rule that out but we can't say it for certain," Simpson said. "That is one of the reasons we issued this alert."

Just the latest hysteria to keep people tuning into the 24 hour cable news networks.  I wonder how many people have died of plain old flu in the time this story has been going on.

Could be news hysteria, but this bug has no cure and to get a Level 1 Trauma unit to a heightened alert takes more than just a cold...  Stay tuned.

What Kanth said, and the fact that some folks have better immune systems than others.

common cold has no cure either.  You have to let both run the course of the infection.  this SARS is just a little more lethal than the cold, and apparently it's pretty contagious.

ther is no cure against viruses, but we can handle most of it with our imune systems we have in our body.
just think about the indians in america that got killed by "regular illness as flue" after the white came over. they had never been affected by it and therby no immune system to heal it either.

well lets say this is a flue like the spanish flue that rammed the world about  1918-20, 30 million people died mostly aged 30 to 45 years old somhow.
but ofcourse alot survived (most of them)
there was no airplanes wich moved  people around the world at that time as they do now.

Just a tought, if this one kills 10% of the victims there would be around 500 million people dead of todays population.

lol 500mill well that is if all the worlds population is infected hehe that wont happen i hope.

That flue was a virus wich we still have no cure for (we got somthing like they call virusbreakers but dont work on many people)

This might be worse than any war we might see coming.
hope not for sure

I remember the swine flu scare when I was a kid.  I think it killed about 12 people.   And 12 million trees, which were cut down to make paper to write about it.

I'm a RN in a Level I Trauma center, 2nd busiest one in the nation in fact. The notion that a "bug" is causing a Trauma Center to "gear up" is rediculous (sp like whats his face). Trauma Centers handle exactly what their name implies, trauma,  infectious disease has no relation to trauma and is treated in an Emergency Room. I do realize that most Level I Trauma Centers like to boast the fact they are L-I, but the sick people will not go there. Just a clarification!:D
