Rudder pedals wobble/bounce
« on: April 04, 2003, 06:55:51 PM »
OK, here`s the scoop. I was using Saitek X45 with analog CH pedals by using the workaround on Ron Hunt`s Saitek help page with no probs. (Win98SE)
I just got a new puter with XP . Hooking the X45 up USB and CH pedals to SB gameport I tryed various combinations by connecting an analog stick to my pedals and and assigning it as 2nd controller for rudders in game. ( This is suggested on Ron Hunt`s Saitek help page). I was getting some stick spike until I dowloaded and installed some CH drivers and setup the 2nd controller as a CH Flightstick  for analog rudder use. Spike probs are cured but now i`m having problems getting my pedals to smooth out. I am experiencing wobble/bounce when applying pressure to the pedals. I have tryed adjusting deadbands/dampening at various settings. I can get some of the wobble/bounce out but not get it to the smoothness it should have. Any suggestions?

I would try Calibrating the Pedals in Windows, then Calibrate them in AH.

Try a "V" configuration, meaning start at 100 and scale down to 50 or 60 than back to 100.

My Best,

I`ll give the V configuration a whirl. Both setups calibrate fine in windows and AH. Thanks.

Try a little more Deadband and Damping.  This should take care of spikes the more Damping you put the slower the respones, but it should take out the spikes.

Tryed every dampening/deadband setting I can. I got the spiking prob cured with driver change, it`s just too touchy(sensitive).

Try to scale it a bit more like:

 2,8,16,32,64,74,84,94,100   or so.

This isn't precise but you get the picture.

You can try my method of fixing things, like if something not working right in my house

Set pedals on a waist high bench--in my house that is the workbench I built and proceeded to store junk on, so first move all the crap on it, then whack the pedals several times with a hammer to loosen up any stubborn hinges or screws, so you may get a mushy feel at first, oh yeah--store away any additional screws or springs that have popped out in a small plastic container that you put in a place that you won't forget about, then blame the wife when you can't find it later.. then, set pedals on floor and do toe raises on them, this should even out the balance between them, unless like my brother you lean to the left cuz you got some weird thing going on with your back and your right knee bothers you so you put more pressure on your left leg, so you always look like the leaning tower of Pisa, if so then lean to the right as you do your toe raises,
now hook back up to the puter, and reset your calibration.
Then, on my keyboard it is set at a s d for rudder control, seems to make no difference as I position myself on your six and remove your left wing :)

Feeling bad about hijacking your post lol
I do know that you probably are better off hooking the pedals up to your usb ports somehow with XP

Is there an adaptor available?

I did respond, but let's keep this one going.

Go to the Joystick screen in AH.  Select the rudder in the axis dropdown list.

Move the pedals as smooth as possible full swing.  Note the graph and see if the lines in the graph are nice and smooth or edgy.
If they are edgy, then play with the deadband and damping until you can get them smooth.  If they simply will not smooth, then there is a good chance there is either some noise from a component in your computer filtering through, or the cable to the sticks/pedals is close to a power cord.

Gameports are a bit noisy to begine with and not as good as a USB port for sticks/pedals, but you should be able to get the sticks to work with minimal interference.

Yea, you responded in saying you found the e-mails, but never answered the questions. lmao
Lines are smooth as silk. Like I said in the e-mails, there is no spiking in setup and calibration.
Now, since your here , is there a way to use the gameport to USB adapter? If so, how do I get XP to recognize it? It will not recognize it on it`s own.
