Well, for all the SNAFUs, from a grunt's perspective I can tell you I had a heck of a good time last night .  Thank you to all the CMs, COs, organizers and others who pour your volunteer time into these events, it doesn't go unnoticed!  Don't dwell on the mistakes, just take note and move on ;).

Thanks for the vote of confidence Dawggus. It is appreciated. :D

Last word on the Frame, as it happened the Fleet jumping probably impacted the Germans and Russians in a similar way. There was supposed to be a Russian escort for it that would have run into the FW-190 and Stukas hunting it. I suspect as it was that everyone lost contact with it. Oh well, live and learn. That is truely "the fog of war".

My Frame 2 orders are drafted, I'm waiting on some information from my Setup CM, Innomin8. They are somewhat more conventional than Frame 1, and I trust more complete.:o

Sure would be nice to have a 1,000 foot ceiling on the clouds above while we did NOE raids in past TODs.

Defending a field covered in clouds is difficult if not impossible without radar or any other warnings. A22 was a goner from the start.
Well it was not a goner from the start. Look at it from our point of view. We could not dive bomb because the clouds were down to 2k. Talk about by the seat of your pants! Accuracy was seriously hindered without a few thousand feet to put your nose down.  Yes we could have leveled bomb, but the ack at 2k would have really hurt a level flight.

After we made our pass on the base you picked apart the whole squad with great success. A 2k ceiling makes is problematic for both sides. :D

My philosophy for designing these sort of events is to leave some of the details and concerns up to the Frame COs. I would rather not tell everyone exactly what is going to be hit, because that makes for a rather predictable time.
Holders Squad Operations will be notably different than mine. Better? Who knows. To each their own. I prefer everything on the table. Everyone knows all the targets on both sides. What is unknown is the direction, time, type, and size of the attacking/defending forces.  His designs will allow more freedom and game play “gambling” so to speak. Good and bad with both. :)

all

Well done holder. :)

When we started setting up to launch last night I was initially going to launch a strike out of A66. But A66 is only a GV base although aircraft were enabled I did not think we could up our strike aircraft and fighter cover from there.

A66 is a fully functioning airbase, it is just rather different in design (ask Sundog about it). He used the GV tent as Hangers, so there are two fighter and one bomber hanger on the base. So, you can launch almost anything from it.

Yeah, at first I was thinking like Sandman. Then we took off in fighters, and when we RTBed to refuel, I realised how much of a pain in the bellybutton it was to attack the field we were defending (21). I actually felt sorry for the Fascist bastards for about half a second :)

WOW!!! I guess I really did pull a handsomehunk move there. Maybe it would have made a difference in the flights not getting all smacked coming out of A65 but one can never tell. As I said earlier..."fortunes of war".

Thanks for that little bit of information...Sikboy I hope you saw what Holder said about A66.

Innomin8 "jumped" the fleet a bit closer so that it would definately be in range for the event. We thought it would be a minor glitch, but one that apparently threw off some of the LW hunting for it.

As per Vulcan's story, we (3 scouts) had originally found the fleet just north of  63.

After engaging some La5s just on the border of the cloud cover, we rtb'd.  Our path lead us on a straight line from the port 38 to A63.

The fleet must have jumped JUST after we gave the coords to the stuka guys.

I had actually reported twice on the main channel that I saw 8" guns firing from a direction due north of A63... they landed well short... I'm guessing the fleet was maybe 40-50 miles due north.  I originally thought there were TWO fleets lurking in the Sea of Azov.

In the future, if the fleet is magically jumped... perhaps the players should be informed so we know we're not crazy. :)  I'm pretty sure Innominate didn't know we had already spotted the bastige outside the port.

Ah well... a learning experience I suppose.

I'm glad I read this today--I was one of those Stuka guys searching and searching and searching and...ya know--north of the port, we kept getting reports it HAD to be there-was just seen, we were all going nuts going down to 50 feet off the water under that low cloud cover, had stukas all spread out throughout the bay, I am not complaining, just am glad that I can confirm that we were'nt nuts saying that we couldn't spot it...those yaks must have been drooling when they saw us all low, slow and spread out lol..

Had fun anyway, I love the immersion feeling as you fly these events, a great difference from the MA, and just want to thank all who run these events --you guys are great !!
