Todd,

Are you using flaps or trim adjustments when you outturn the N1k's? It seems every fight I get into, the N1k gets me. It is the bane of my AH existence! Thanks.

Spit Vs will bring you more perks.  You're also less likely to black out and nose plant into the ground in a turnfight.

If you're going to fly a Spit IX, use the twin 20's and twin 50's package - better ballistics on the bullet stream.

You shouldn't have to use flaps to get the Spitfire V to turn tighter than a N1K2.  Only time I've ever used flaps in the Spitfire V is to aid in landing.

P-51 can almost out turn a Spit 5 at 250 MPH, with more than one flap .

Flaps in a Spit V are a last resort sort of deal; I use them when hanging in the vertical for that little bit of extra tail standing power.  Otherwise they don't help in an actual turnfight.

I can't speak to trim adjustments, as I mostly just stick to combat trim in the Spit V.  Manual trimming can ease the workload in a situation where you're doing lots and very slow vertical movements, but it doesn't allow you turn any faster or better than combat trim in my experience.

The P-51 turns great at high speed with a notch of flaps, and without a doubt the Spit V's major weakness is its high speed turning ability.

Of course, the Spit's best move in a situation like that is to just hit the brakes and let the P-51 fly right on by.

Hitting the brakes would then give the P-51 more E..  Therefore p51 will control the fight from the point on, if he flies smart.

A P-51 who isn't in a position to control a co-E, high speed fight with Spit V from the outset has some serious issues anyway.

Unless said P-51 decided it would be more fun to mix it up and risk losing the fight, than to ensure he'd win. I do that often, it breaks up the monotony.

Ya it does, i have developed alot of boredom over the last couple months and the only thing that keeps me intrested in the game is the challenge of going against a better suited plane for turn fighting.
