Want to upgrade your gaming rig? Looky this!
« on: April 16, 2003, 07:16:15 PM »
You can now get a
P4 3.06Ghz/533mhz bus
512 RDRAM 1066 (running at 533mhz)
FREE DVD burner drive
16X DVDRom
no monitor
keyb,mouse,speakers+subwoofer
1yr warranty
$200 mail in rebate
64 meg Nvidia,
SBLIVE 5.1
FREE SHIPPING

at DELL.

I work in Dell Sales, and this is the first time I see this machine, which for that config usually runs at $2400, sold at ~$1300 BEFORE the 200 bucks rebate!

No idea how long this sale will last, uberdeals like these only run for one or two days.

I think they are giving them out this cheap because intel released a new motherboard which allegedly boosts the P4 3.06ghz performance.. but damn, the system as it is is KICKASS for any game in the market now and probably will be kickass for 2 more years.

If you looking to upgrade your gaming box, this is one heck of a chance!

While Dell does make a decent rig, you can build your own, better, for considerably less.  Cut the cost further if you don't need a keyboard and crap.

I would normally agree with you mart. But this price I couldnt beat building my own (I may work for Dell but I build my own machines heheh).

And I have been looking to upgrade my ol' 1.4ghz AMD with 266mhz DDR, just getting the P4 3.06 ghz and Mobo was on its own like 700 bucks, never mind the cost of the power supply and the RAM. And these guys now are giving 512 megs of the most expensive ram for free and a 220 bucks dvd burner to boot hehe. You do the math :)

Torque: Hehe, id love to man, but you're in Canada.. i cant sell to you, different dept. ;)

better git that 64mb nvidia out of there and replace it with either Radeon 9500 pro or 9700 pro.

Check out macena systems.  That's where I buy most of my stuff.  It's cheaper there.

Like I said.  I'm not knocking Dell.  They make good stuff, and they aren't bad price wise.  You can ALWAYS build it cheaper, though.

yeah, that "64mb nvidia" -- what the hell is ithat?
and if it's a dell at that price, it's probably hardwired to the MB.
Still ...

You either have something extremely out of the ordinary, or you got screwed hard.

Take the $200 and replace the SB Live 5.1 card, then use the rest towards a 21" Sony Trinitron at http://www.newegg.com .  My 5.1 can't handle DirectX 9 so I replaced it with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.  Other than that, everything looks pretty good!  Free shipping is pretty sweet, too.

I built my own AMD 1.4ghz gaming rig at $1000 less than the retail price & price from stores and dealers. But I can't match this one with the same stuff on it, I come up almost 400 bucks over this price. Like I said, just the damn P4 3.06 is like 500+ bucks on its own.

From memory (im at work now), from the stores I get my stuff from to build my rigs,
P4 3.06ghz chip & heatsink rigging ~$600
Mobo ~$200
512 RDRAM PC1066 ~$300
DVD Burner ~$250
DVD RoM ~$60
Tower+350W power supply+fans ~$80
Shipping of items (most are free shipping) ~$60
Hard Drive (60G 7200RPM) $~100
64 meg Nvidia GF4MX (crap, but just to give apple to apple comparison pricing) ~$80

comes to $1730, and the shipping on the items for $60 is variable depending on where you get the stuff. So, yes, normally this price beats the $2000+ this system normally costs. But not now though. If you find a place where you get it cheaper, please let us know! :)

The 64 MB Nvidia card is a low end gaming card (GeForce4 MX), that is why I said  "upgrade your gaming rig", most of us now have good vid cards (128 gforce 4 Ti4200+ or better), but have been left behind in CPU/RAM tech. And the 64MB Nvidia is not integrated into the mobo, its stand-alone.
