At home my wife and I use Win2k Pro for "personal settings" reasons....so that we each have our own log on and personal settings as mentioned above..blah blah blah

BUT, everytime either one of us attempts to log on, the screen will freeze with the personal background that we chose and the mouse "loading" then nothing..

so u have to ctrl alt del to log off, ask u if you want to log off, click "yes" then gives me log on screen again, this time "Click" and it loads all the settings as normal.....? this started for both of us recently...

now we have to do this procedure EVERYTIME we log on to the PC.

Now I have updated...and updated and still nothing. I was told once to save settings in each name or folder, delete current the paste back folder...

thing is..tried that and still have this problem.

ANY EXPERTS KNOW OF THIS BUG??

please help if possible.....

thanks

Perhaps its driver related...

What I mean is perhaps one piece of hardware is giving the system a hard time at bootup...

Perhaps check your hardware drivers, specially that mouse...

I can't recall now if there is a boot.log or not, do a search and see if there is.  Perhaps it will show where the system is hanging.

Belay the driver search! When you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, select Task Manager. Is anything using 100% CPU? There's your problem.

If not, chances are your profile is corrupt. Export your bookmarks and cookies Log on as an administrator-level user, NOT yourself, copy your profile (\documents and settings\yourname\*) somewhere, then delete your profile. Log out then back in as yourself and copy/import necessary dat (desktop, favorites, cookies etc) back in

System Idle process will not affect your performance.  When you see it utilizing 99% of the CPU it just means that your CPU is bored so is spending its time doing nothing (hence "idle").  As soon as a real application needs to utilize the CPU, the idle process relenquishes control.

I think qts has the right idea.  This sounds like a corrupted profile to me.
