Hiya DVDA, Targeting in Aces High is a bit tougher than AW ever was !  The biggest reason is because in AW everything was run in half time. In AH everything is in full time. In AW we use to start your turn on the merge at 650 out, in aces high if you do that you are already halfway behind in the turn on the merge.

Check out the info I put up on the Mafia's web site here http://webpages.charter.net/maddogjoe/AcesHigh.htm "air to air targetting" is a write up I blatantly stole from SimHQ ( I do give credit and links to there site :p ) It explains it pretty good. Another great place for info is at NetAces http://www.netaces.org/

Turn your tracers ON, turn your film on, then fight fer awhile. Then use AH Film viewer (out of the game) watch your film from inside the other guy's plane....  You're probably shooting behind your target.

For one thing, the gunnery model is completely different than the one you're used to from AW and it's also has one of the steepest learning curves in AH.

A good suggestion is to turn off your tracers, this will force you to learn how to properly lead your target and gauge the proper angles.  Within a week, you'll find yourself hitting more targets and your hit percentage will reflect your increased accuracy.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the speed of Air Warrior.  AW2/3/MV was a lot slower compared to AH (talking about speed of the game).  The exception was AW4W, and if any of you old AWer's remember, the speed of AW4W is almost as fast as AH's but for some reason when AW2 and later on AW3/MV came out, the speed was slowed down, probably to make it a little more friendlier to the masses.

correct Ack-Ack

In AW if the closeing speeds of two planes was 250 it took 5 seconds of real time to close 1000 feet. In Aces High with the same speeds, you close that same 1000 feet in 2.5 seconds. Alot less time to make a move or adjustment for aim.

About the tracers.... it took me a year to try it, but now that I'm shooting without tracers, my hit % is almost triple what it was last month.... OK so that means my aim was REALLY bad last month  :D

dvda

don't fire until you are under 500

really you should wait until you are under 300d

check ur gun convergence, set it for each plane

fly IL2/FB - if you can hit/kill in there, you'll be an AH ace in no time :)

in the 109 i have it set at 250

set it for 350, go offlne and pop the drones

practice swooping in from different angles once you can consistantly explode them from the rear

Hi DV

If you were a regular in Relaxed Realism AW you will have a clue in about 2 weeks, maybe 3, you have to lead a lot more, set ur convergence to 350, you will get hits from 250 to 500 with that setting, remember that if the guns are wing mounted they are converging in a triangle in front of you and spread from there, imagine the rounds going into an x pattern from you, with u being the bottom of the x.
Lots of peeps in here use their rudders a lot in making turns, if ur E is faster they will be turning inside of you so even though your guns are on his six, by the time they get to the merge point they are behind him.
It took me about 2 - 3 weeks to finally start getting hits on a regular basis-it is frustrating but it will come, just need to lose the AW "rail Ride" feel.
Good Luck
NwBie
There are a lot of good sites to check out gun merge, The MAW's have a good site, Hammer has a good site, and several others, I am sure someone here can provide links, I am not at my regular puter so don't have the links available.

If you were shooting in the right place you wouldn't have a problem  ;)

Most of the "cannons" have poor ballistics. This means they drop more than say the 50 cals. So even if ya sneak up on some guys six with the 50 cals you'll have to aim above him, even more so with the cannons. Thats not bring in to acount any turning. If your fireing in a 3 G turn your enemy will be under the nose of your plane for you to get hits. Practice is the key, and loose the tracers. Not only will you get use to pulling the right lead with out all those tracers wizzing all around, it will give you the element of surprise as you fire on someone.... atleast till ya start hitting him  :D

DVDA

A useful little thing to also use is the:

.target xxxx   command

just type it into the chat buffer and add a distance

ex:

 .target 500

and a target will appear at d500 to the north.

type:

.target 0

to make it disapear

it will show you how much the bullets drop and also how tight the grouping is as a set convergence.

hope this helps as well :)

also like eagler said if you can hit stuff in IL2-FB,  AH is easy :D
