Fleet parking
« on: May 30, 2003, 11:04:17 AM »
In this okinawa set up the fleets toughness is only at 4k. The only air bases the us has until they take a field are the carriers.

Today I was in the ct and some admiral kept sailing the fleet right up to a24. With the toughness of the cv reduced they can be sunk with the 37 mm fiel gun.

All 5  carriers were in range. Now if these carriers get sunk then the us guys have no planes to fly until the cvs rebuld.

On top of this the fighters taking off can get no alt are are very easy meat for the axis.

I killed 4 in like 2 min.

It was so bad that I went allied to attempt to save them. But unfortunately so other admiral sailed them right back.  I am talking so close that ack from the field could hit fighters trying to take off.

CV parking will only lwead to them being sunk. CV parking wont allow the allies to get an position to fight.

Everyone wants to have fun but if the allies have no planes to fly then the ct wont be fun.

So if you want to be an admiral and you want to fly allied planes see to it your fleets dont get sunk doing stupid stuff like parking them right off an nme field.

Overall the map is great and the fun potential remains very high.

Genius!  The CT staff has finally figured out a way to discourage fleet parking.

Best news I've heard all day.

Agreed, Oldman.  I think this is great.
Encourages proper use of the carriers.
Encourages ... doesn't force it. If the 'admirals' are foolish enough to continue using the carrier fleets as floating ack batteries just offshore, they'll pay the price, and I don't mind the consequences.  I can always find something else to do if the USN can't fly.

Might be the only way the IJAAF can win this one.  ;)

Perhaps the allies will be encouraged to police themselves in this regard for this setup.

Same place as my Spitfires.  :(

Oh well, we had our late war 109vSpit fight last weekend (even though I had to fly LW for #'s concerns on Saturday) so I guess we should let those Pacific types enjoy themselves this weekend.  ;)

Jester did this on his Sicily setup.
I did it on my Slot setup (inadvertently set it to 3K, no one seemed to notice as there was little fleet parking going on)
I believe it was set to a lower value last week also.

What, do you guys only look at the available planesets?  Those little "extras" were put in there with the idea of eliminating the "park the fleet offshore and vulch a while" incidents we've all seen in the past.

Well, this would more than make up for them having the C Hog, no?????

Oh, I want to be the first to kill a CV with a Panzer or M8.

Maybe we can get some CT darwin awards rolling?

I am reminded of the scene in "Dr. Strangelove" when the title character says to the Russian ambassador, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ANYONE?"

Apologies for not appreciating your prior efforts.  Thank you all.  As Sakai mentions, this is one very good reason to learn how to operate a GV.

It was in my MOTD

I put it near the bottom, with the general message that fleet commanders should keep their ships moving and not get too close inshore else they find themselves in command of floating debris!
Sorry if I came across as harsh, operating on two hours sleep after being on an out of town assignment the last few days.
I do remember Jester posting the info in his MOTD, like I did with mine.

In other setups it doesnt matter as the theres usually any number of land bases they can take off from if the cv is lost. As this setup began the allies only had the cvs to launch planes from.

I had thought there was a longer cv down time. Brady said it was default (12-15min) so its not the problem that I had thought it would be.

CV toughness has been played with since the cms took over the ct. Nothing has prevented fleet parking. I was jsut concerned that if the cv down was too long that there would be times when the allies wouldnt be able to launch planes. if this were to happen no fun would be had by either side.

So basically ignore this post. With default down times there should be nop with the allies launching planes.

Personally, it drives me crazy to see all our CVs 10 miles from the coast. We cant get decent alt before we hit the coast. Is there some reason they ALL have to be parked there?

CV captains, get a clue please.

One way to solve this "Allied has only the Fleets" problem is that Host gives to Allied couple of bases, for example the first ones:

Kerama Islands (26. - 29. of March 1945)
Yontan and Kadena from the invasion coast (1. - 3. of April 1945)

Maybe this is good starting point to CT setup... ?

last night i got on early enough to take command of all cv, put them in triangle patterns about 25 miles off coast, i want to be able to get alt before i attack. sure enough about an hour later i am getting yelled at to move them closer. some body else takes command and sails it right into the island. result, it is sunk soon after. no point in complaining, people will do what they want to do. and before i get flamed, when they were still on my course you could spawn an lvt about 1 mile from the coast, so the boats were plenty close enough.

Amen, snocone. I've said all along that AH has too many "fleet commodores" that have mastered the fine art of sinking their own ships. You'd think lowering the damage value to cardboard would make them more hesitant to treat them as expendable assets ... but noooooooooooooooo.

Then again, since there are no "Allied ports" to capture, I guess they figure the map was made to throw suicide fleets at the enemy beach.
