I'm the second person with this problem I've heard of (Snafu's cousin experiencing the same anomoly)

The computer will suddenly not recognize the Joystick (usually while in flight, in the middle of a good fight, Murphys Law) and the lights go off on the stick. Work around is hit autopilot, unplug USB, plug it back in, reload profile. I can do this all in about 30-45 seconds if I'm really fast.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing latest drivers, etc.

are you using a powered usb hub with the X45?

mine was squirrelly before dx9 until I picked up one

fixed mine - plus I don't have to crawl under desk to hook up/unhook other usb stuff

if it doesn't fix your problem, take it back

Unpowered USB hubs (why they call them that is beyond me) get the power to run from the USB bus.

If the cable to it is long or if the voltage levels drop, then the hub will lose its USB port connections, long enough that Windows will drop the device.

An externally powered USB hub will always be more reliable.
