Great Strat Run last night..WTG GUYS!
« on: June 03, 2003, 09:09:21 AM »
For those that were not there...

We set up a mission with 10 flight of 3 B-17's and 4 pairs of P-51 Escorts.

We upped out of 45, and the heavies formed up in 2 groups, 1 2K behind the other, 15 Bombers in each groups. The 2 arrow head formations with the escorts overhead were an awesome sight.

Upon reaching 15k, and leveling, we hit the rally point, and decided to attack both the Primary and secondary target.

At the rally, Flight One turn South East for the Rook City and Flight 2 turned southwest for the Rook HQ.

FLight 2 was alotted 6 escorts as we knew they would encounter much more resistance.

Timing was perfect. The Rooks city was carpet bombed (Beautiful to watch) and dropped to 15 % and the HQ was leveled at the same instant.

Flight 1 encountered light resistance, as most interceptors in the area went after flight 2. The escorts and interceptors mixed it up pretty good, and in the end, only 6 B-17s of Flight 2 survived the raid. Flight one lost 2 bombers to interceptors as well.

All in all, a great time for those involved.

I'd like to thank my squad for their work, and the guys like Hazed and 68KO for their excellent excort work.

We'll do something similar tonight as well. Be looking for it.

Sounds like you guys had fun Muck. I'm glad.

Speaking for myself, these types of missions don't bother me much. Knowing you guys, I bet not one buff was on the deck. I bet not one of you intentionally suicided.

Strat/tactics isn't my gripe. Gamey crap is.

It was great listening to the mission unfold on Sqaud Vox while I followed the BK's around trying to save all their tulips in the furballs ... :D

Apache ... you gotta talk to Lazs about his new tour strategy (land kills in all planes). It's turned him into something very ugly and hard to describe ... ;)

Great fun flying with the BK's .. <>

There is nothing I hate more than gamey crap when it comes to bombers. I just roll my eyes and sigh when I seea 17 flight flight on the deck or worse...dive bombing!

The B-26 runs on the deck are alright, in my book, because the plane was designed to do that, to some extent. (Somwhat akin to the B-25 run on Tokyo....Doolittle raid).

The goal was to survive. We had the base of 25 slated as the return base, but 2 forms in my flight got seperated on the return leg, and had to land at a different base.

Pork and Auger, diving buffs, and Suicide missions will never be conducted by me. That's a promise.

I think it really says something when you can level at 15k and still hit your target without being molested by enemy fighters.

If you really wanted to make a statement, you should've bombed both the Rook HQ and the Bish HQ, and then let the Knights run rampant across the whole map. :D

yep slap... when I am in one of them LW planes all I want is to get the kill, land it and get out of the plane... If that means stealing, or trying to steal a kill then .... I have no problem with that...  All morality flies out the window when stucik in a LW plane.   I got 7 assists in the damn things.

muck... I don't care what you do at 15K or if it takes you 2 hours to do it and I am glad that in that time there were actually a few fights... not what I would call fights but to each his own... but....

If such a low talent milkrun takes out the radar so that when I get on I can't find a fight then... I will continue to lobby for a more balanced effect for your effort.

A good example would be... Do you think that the atomic bomb should be  available for everyone?   See?  it is a matter of degree.   I believe that not only would an atomic bomb be unbalanceing but I believe that your "missun" was  (or could be)unbalancing.  Too much effect for too little effort and too much effect for to little interest... In other words... very few people wanted to participate but your "missun" affected (or had the potential to affect)many people.

when I sortie a furball I may affect 1-10 guys game but they have an equal or allmost equal chance of stopping me or ruing my fun... not only that but... they are participating out of choice.

First off, I'm not getting roped into you "Buff..no talent mudslinging" again. You have Beetle for that now. We've both made our positions abundantly clear on this debate, and I find it fruitless to go through it again.

My mission had the participation of 20 pilots.  That was about 13% of the knights who were on. I do not consider that a lack of interest.

If you find my missions unbalancing you have 3 options:

1)Go to the Dueling arena
2)Switch sides and come and stop me
3) Continue your crusade to get Dale to prgram away what you don't like.

As I am sure you already know, I will continue to play the game my way. This will mean larger, more complex, and more enemy dibilitating missions.

I understand fully that you will continue to play your way, as you should. If my game interfers with yours, I have to admit, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Hey Muck!  Once I sign back on to AH, I'll be looking for ya for one of those missions.  IT sounded like alot of fun.  Very historical also with the plane set.

Im more of an escort type than bomber but I'll do what is needed.

:)
Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

You're more than welcome, Swager. We always need good escorts. And good fighter planes are nice to have too!:D

muck... not only will you not lose any sleep over it.... you depend on it.   You need me to add meaning to what is essentially.... killing toolsheds.   If it didn't affect me you would stop doing it.   If bombing HQ had no effect on the map you would not do it ...   that being the case....  is it so hard to see why I would advocate your not having such a large effect?

there is of course a 4th possibility.    the upcomeing "missun arena" may be more suited to the guys who are of that ilk... they may leave and the strat won't need to be changed in the MA since no one (or not many) will bother to do "missuns" when they have their own arena.

just as the CT got rid of the worst of the "allied vs axis" guys in the MA...  the "missun" arena may get rid of the worst of the strat and score guys.

the suicide guys will probly be orphaned... you guys won't need em anymore and will probly belittle em in the missun arena... us guys never did like em and they will feel unwelcome here too.

Oh my God, you really do have a deity complex, don't you?

Thanks for the laugh. I;m not sure if you were serious or not, but it was funny none the less.

let me set the record straight. If you fell off the face of the Earth this instant, I would not even notice, outside of the entertainment value you bring to the BBS.

I do what I do in game because I get a satisfaction out of blowing up toolsheds.

Sorry if that blows your ego, old friend, but you're existence has no bearing on my gameplay.

muck... so... if your blowing up toolsheds had no effect on me (other players) then you would still continue to do so?

That would be fine with me and an ideal solution for the strat furball debate... a way for us to coexist.   you could kill all the fuel but it wouldn't affect availability... you could kill the FH's but fighters would still be available... you could kill the GV hangers but... well.. if you killed them then there should be no GV's for a month.

Sure Lazs, sounds fair.

And as a concession, you're bullets have no affect on any of my planes...I mean, since we're making deals here.

If it bombing strat targets had no effect on you personally, sure I would do so.

The only reason to hit strat is to either:

1- Slow the advance of the enemy
2- Gain an advantage for field capture.

You don't take bases so, part one does not affect you. And you don't care about the "War" so part 2 does not affect you.

So in essence, you have no bearing on what I do and the fact that your gameplay is affected by mine is an unfortunate byproduct of a strat campaign.

In the same regard, you have no interest in fighting buffs, but if you happen upon one, you'll shoot it down. So your gameplay affect mine. The difference is, I welcome the challenge of fighting off an interceptor.
