Canopy glasses with reflections, that can get dirty from smoke, oil or fuel, and that can get broken by enemy fire. Glasses that make us feel to be INTO the plane.

Sometimes I think that FB is revenge for the Great Patriotic War....pretty planes and all but online it's just a dogfight at a 1000 feet with bases 2 miles apart.

If it is was like this in r/l everyone would have been flying P39's whenever they could!!

I think Pyro did some work for Janes WW2 Fighters. At least that is a rumor I heard.

WW2 Fighters is about 5 years old and still has the best graphics in and out of the plane I have ever seen.

Il2 has better graphics than Janes, but the difference is not that dramatic especially considering Janes WW2 fighters is 6 years old... :D  I played that game so much till somebody figured out how to hack the FM and then a lot of guys started cheating and half the time I flew I was accused of cheating - I quit that game and came to AH almost three years ago now! :D

They should model ducks and birds that go *SPLAT* on your windshield.

Pilots should go splat aswell.

I'm sure I've flown into a chute, died, but he just floated merrily along :(

BenDover,

There are parts of Janes were you can't tell your looking at a simm. I swear they spliced in real WW2 footage.

I haven't played it in a while so maybe my memory is making it seem better than it is. But when your cockpit is hit you can see your wind screen shattered, blood on the glass and oil on the windshield.

Also the textures aren't to bright which gives it a nostaglic look and makes the resolution just seem more real. More like grainy motion picture film instead of animation. You know how the guys here take screenies and make them black and white so you can't tell if it is an old picture or not, just like that.

IMHO all of the modern online simms AH, WB3, CFS2/3 and others all look cartoony to me. Janes looks like a scene from Saving Private Ryan.

BenDover,

Those are a few good ones. The best scenes were the missions you would fly were you would be in close formation with 30 other A/C and the crackle of the radio would come over in either German, English accent or an American voice. You would look out the window and see two friendlies collide and go down with the most amazing fire and smoke trails followed by a radio call telling you that you just lost two friendlies.

Sorry I don't have screenies, I will look for some and post them.

I don't know if HTC has any idea for the high regard most people who have played the game have for it as you can tell by the post in this thread. Not a knock against HTC at all but they would do well to take a look at what was done in that game.
