Deportations set for dramatic increase

The Justice Ministry expects a dramatic increase in the number of deportations of illegal immigrants in the coming months after the opening of an "expulsion centre" in Rotterdam on Friday.

The new centre will be used to hold illegal immigrants arrested in the mass search campaigns being conducted by the immigration service and police.

The Ministry plans to deport an extra 3,000 to 4,000 illegal immigrants. The arrest operations had to be restricted in the past due to the lack of detention places.

Municipal authorities are reportedly so pleased with the operations, which started last year in The Hague before moving to other large cities, that the ministry needed to dampen its enthusiasm, a justice ministry official said.

The number of forced deportations increased to a record 12,015 last year and unpublished figures indicate that 5,515 illegal immigrants were deported during the first five months of 2003.

With the establishment of the new centre, the ministry hopes to deport about 16,000 illegals. A second centre will be opened at Schiphol Airport in November.

Many East European illegal workers and prostitutes have been arrested and deported in the ministry arrest operations in recent months.

I fail to see how getting rid of the illegal immigrants is of any help to the USA.
These are the people who are willing to do the jobs you are not, working twice as hard, for half what you would demand.
The government knows more than you or me the importance of these immigrants, and they act accordingly.

Oh, and a link to the original source of the article would be nice.

Hey, they seem more than happy to work for food, and if they run away, they are gonna get beat up and deported.

Its not like they are Cuban...

Well, my totally unsupported opinion is that the USA will probably be doing the same thing - whenever we get our act together.

If I'm not mistaken, the goal of the Homeland Security is to keep out undocumented/illegal aliens of all races and creeds, for obvious reasons.

No doubt, some productive illegal aliens will be scooped up. The economy will just have to adjust.

We should let illegals stay because they undercut US workers?  Of course US workers won't work for Mexican wages.

Any proof that they work twice as hard?   The Mexican economy doesn't show it.

Compared to the standard of living they could achieve in their home countries, they are being paid more than US workers.  That's why they sneak in, not because they love to work for Americans.

Of course businesses will hire every illegal they can.  With illegal immigration tolerated by the government, no business can afford to hire US workers or legal immigrants when their competition is hiring illegals at third world wages.   If we tighten controls on illegal immigration and some businesses go belly up, so be it.  We can increase legal immigration if we need to, that's the correct way to handle labor shortages.  There is absolutely no reason to tolerate illegal immigration except to give some businesses access to below-market labor.

People act as if we have no right to control who is allowed into our own country.

Anecdotal, but for hard backyard work, I know for a fact that an illegal Dominican worker will work more than twice as hard as a citizen, for 1/3 the pay, and actually be grateful for having a job.

heheheh having traveled from eastern europe to EU countries on few occasions i can tell you one thing for sure: ain't gonna stop nobody...

Polish citizen don't need visas to EU, get on the train, passport check on polish/german border: where are you going ? To the market on the other side of the oder !!!
No checks between that and Holland.
They will see lot of same people coming though :)

As for USA, i don't know if it would work. It's much harder to get into US then it is into EU. Geography and all.
