Anyone here from Spain? (Malaga)
« on: July 16, 2003, 02:15:56 AM »
Well, djust came back from 4 months in Thailand...

I have the itch badly to leave Sweden again... I have the oppurtunity to work in an bar in Malaga (Spain).

I figure i will start out with the bar job and while i search for an "computer-related" job at the same time...

Ive actually been outside Malaga for an week, i think the place was called Almunecar or something similar...

Anyone here from Spain that wouldnt mind answering some questions for me?

Take care.

I've got a question for any one living near Granada......

I've just set up a lovely little portable for my parents (who live near Granada); so they can stay in touch with their grand kids.

Any tips or clues on Spanish ISP's or buisness models?

Hi Seeker,

best thing you can do is to set up a free account with any of the big companies here.

There are special numbers to call from anywhere in Spain. You pay for the time you stay connected.

Prices are: 0,6733 Euro/min (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) and 0,6145 Euro/min (8:00 pm to 8:00 am, and on saturdays and holidays)

If you have problems subscribing just tell me.

Hiya Spanish people! :)

It was mainly  qustion about how the IT-market is in spain, if there are many computer jobs...

I djust applied for an job on Teneriffe! Internet Café and Computer education job!. An Swedish company is hiring one computer admin! I hope i get it!

If i dont get it im moving to Malaga to take the bar job that my friend offered then im gonna serch for computer jobs!

How much does it cost to live in spain? how much does an 2-room appartment cost an month?

The company wich ive sent my applikation (dont think this is the right word) to is offering about 900 Euro an month in salary, Can you survive on that money in Spain?

:)

Your chances of getting a good computer job in Spain are the same as everywhere else (except perhaps in India): slim to none, and paraphrasing the great Will Farrell: "slim just left the building".

You can still get some low-paid temporal job.

Good luck mate, although I think you'll earn more in the bar :)

2-room appartment in Tenerife will probably be quite cheaper than in Malaga, but expect a minimum of 300 to 400 Euro a month. Perhaps more.

You can survive... but barely. It's what people with PhD students with an internship get :)

Can't really say about the Big Mac, plenty of good food around her to go to a Mc Donalds (don't get me wrong, there are lots of people who go here, but I'm not one of them).

Mo thru Fri you can get lunch menus around 9 Euro. A dinner can go from 15 to 21 Euro if you don't want anything too fancy.

A Big Mac (I'm guessing here) is probably around 2-3 Euro.

Hey, Spain sounds more expensive then Sweden! no way i can live on 900 euros...

The big mac was only for comparing prices...

I make 1600 Euros after tax in Sweden, and the prices in Spain seem to be similar to Swedish prices, if not an bit more expensive...

Prices in my hometown, Salamanca.

Big Mac, chips and coke like 4 or 4.50.
Coffee 1.20
Bus ticket 65-80 cent
Weekly groceries/meat/fish/pasta/fruit/milk/other food at the supermarket for 2 persons: 40-60€

Everything else as Daniel said, you could probably pay less rent sharing a flat with 2 or 3 students, but never under 150€/mo.

I have friends in Madrid doing IT stuff after finishing their studies and they are all around those 900€. They have to get money from their parents here and there. I'm lucky I did the 600 and 900 jobs while I was in college and still at home. The internet crash came about just as I started to work for more hired by the cudly nanny state.

We are fast and happily "converging" with the rest of Europe in prices, even surpassing it while salaries are pretty much stuck (extreme example:  real state has been going up like 8% or 10%per semester for a few years now).

:(

I had the feeling that it would cost less to "live" in spain compared to Sweden, boy was i wrong...

I pay 360 Euros for my appartment djust outside Stockholm, 2 rooms and kitchen, 55 square meters, 10 mins with the subway to the "heart" of Stockolm...

I guess i will have to postpone my plans for an year or so, to big of an pay cut...

I´m traveling to Malaga in Oktober tho, to check out that bar job and get an tan
