332nd Flying Mongrels were ordered to launch from A21 in Spitfires and sweep the factory between A24 and A25 for the Mossies who were going to attack it after flying north (up to 27) for a bit. We ran into a few N1K2’s near A25 but worked our way to the ammo factory. There we found quite a few N1K2’s and engaged them. Logs have not been posted yet, but we about as good as we got. I am guessing we downed 8 to 10 aircraft.

I don’t think anyone made it out alive.

Wild fight over the factory. to the IJN who we engaged there. I hope we killed most of you.  :)

I got two N1k's and then died a horrible death with 4 or 5 N1K's all over me.

Was a short but very intense frame for me....

I been involved in alot of scraps in the TOD before but this one was just down right nasty!  I believe either me or my wingie Nifty was the last Dog to go down.  I counted 3 N1K2s at the time and figued us four could handle them when 4 more N1K2s joined the fray.  Wineman and banana went down right before Nifty and I fell.  The N1K2's just kept on entering the scrap.  I believe there were 4 or 5 left when I hit the silk.

Most of it was low level.

The N1K2's did a great job and the frame was a blast!!

Was a fun event, our P-47's didnt see as much action till near the end.  I think Damned and the Maw finished off the last of those Niki's on our way home from taking out the Troop target

Damned were rtb and engaged ran across some mid-alt Nikis about 50 miles from home.  Of course during that some higher nikis came in shortly after.   Things were getting pretty hairy, but fortunately the MAW p47s were a bit higher and only 2 minutes behind us and that was the end of the NIKI units fun :)

MAW guys, I think we owe ya one

Damned I think got 10 kills.   We would have been in position to engage the ki67's at the end if we had know they were going to rtb over our refueling base.    We didn't realise that until we were already on the rearm pads.

I have one accident report to file.  I had remapped one of my flap keys and my secondary trigger shortly before the event.  This was a bad decision (oops :(  ).   I damaged 2 of my squadies on the rearm pad with an accidental tap on the trigger.  Fortunately the action was pretty much over by then.   (I am in the doghouse - none of will fly in front of me now :) )

Shillelagh AAR:

T+ 0: Took off.
T+ 40: brutally molested by the 56th FG
T+41: cried

Seriously, it might not have looked like it in the logs, but I thought it was a great fight against the Wolfpack. Montezuma and were trying to work the edges, and keep some kind of energy at alt, but no matter what we did, were were always at the dissadvantage, neither getting nor giving a shot. So we took it down closer to the deck with the hopes of evening things up a bit, but it was no use, owned.

to the 56th, I had fun.

just how many N1K2's were there?    There were at least 24 around the factory at one point, because we knocked down 20, and there were 4 left when I smacked the ground (damn unlucky Hispanos this time.  I raked two of those guys and they didn't go down.  *sigh*)

Oh well, was a fun TOD!  Very rare for the Allieds to be on the short stick of technology against the Japanese, but that's how it was all 3 Frames for the Dogs!  (hurri I vs a6m2; Boston/p40e vs ki61; spit IX vs N1K2)

MAG-33 was one of the groups of P47-25's that were suppose to sweep the HQ area, however we became entangled in a dogfight with a bunch of N1k's enroute, that posed a threat to the main Jabo force (Sorry Sancho, couldn't get all the way in) We furballed with numerous enemy and more that were coming in right down to the deck. I believe we lost 2 pilots to the count of 12 enemy kills.

Fun frames!  I appreciate the CM's taking time out from real life to put these things together! [/size]

Well lets see I was told that Japanes planes were N1K2s and Ki67s. So we put up 14 in Ki67s escorted by about 12 in N1K2s on our raid to the allied HQ. Everyone else was in N1K2s defending our HQ, the ammo factory, and the training facility.

The groups were roughly split in 3 so about 22 N1K2s per area. During the fight we shifted some of the center group north to deal with the strike up there. So if you were in the north you could have seen say 30+ N1K2s in the area.

However, by shifting north it allowed you guys to get something in that ripped our training facilities to shreds. The north ammo factory was barely hit (like 2 objects), our HQ wasn't hit, but the training facility was a 100% loss.

As for our late frame bomber strike .. most of the Nightmares bombers got to target but 75% of the bomb drops went too long or too short. Out of the 14 KI67s that hit the allied HQ I believe 8 got back to A19 to rearm for a second strike.

The N1K2s almost all died defending the buffs .. they dragged the Spits down and away saving the tail end of the stream but were torn to pieces.

Out of our second strike against your HQ we lost 6 enroute to P47s low. One got to target and was killed there later by P47s and Spits close to the end of the frame.

Was very intense frame for us.

That was the Marine Air Wing in p47s that destroyed your training facility. Was surprised it was not defended. If it had been we may have only destroyed 90% we had to gun the last 10% down.

68th? I gather you made it to the target before we did. Very sorry about that. You must have stayed low. Even though we had the direct route (and you went north) we climbed out the whole way. Must have slowed us down enough to be behind you.

Had I timed that better your guys would not have been slaughterd.

Sikboy, that was a great fight with your squad.  It isn't often we get a big near even numbers fight in P-47s above 20k.  That's when you really see the jug shine.  Sorry y'all had to be on the receiving end.  Later on, some FDBs cought us just after take off and had a good time abusing us.  Another fun fight, but frustrating being fully fueled against N1Ks down low. :)
