The cable on my SoftComm Red Baron died horribly.

I need a new headset under $300. What is considered the best set in the pricerange?

Also, anyone know how to replace the cable on the Red Baron? I want to fix it so at least I dont have to rent one when I'm taking a passenger.

-edit-
just called SoftComm, they will replace the cable free of charge.

David Clark H10-60.

Not ANR or anything like that, good noise cancelling mic so when talking on the ICOM you dont hear as much engine noise as you would with a lesser quality mic.

Not sure of the cost...But the David Clark 13.4 (it has a fully flex boom rather than a metal slide and a 1/2 length flex boom) are good headsets and weigh...imagine this...13.4 ounces.  Both good headsets and Dave Clark makes top of the line stuff.

I use the H10-60 and it hasn't let me down yet.  For passengers, I also own a pair of Soft Comm (I want to say Silver Fox(its one model) but am not sure of the name, I bought them at the FBO I worked at last summer and they were $80/each at cost for a retail of a little over a hundred.  they work great and I even got a few sets of "demo" Gel earseals)

Thanks, I'll see if I can find them below $300 on ebay or something.

Animal,

I had a pair of these Flightcomm 4DX's in my PT for 14 years, never had a lick of trouble with them. It's pretty noisy in an open cockpit but although they don't have the sound insulation of a DC, they were very good.

They're not the very best but for what you're talking about doing with them, they'll more than do the job.

Usually available in the $100-$125 range. Did I mention they were inexpensive?  ;)
