What do you guys think is better, Hasegawa or Tamiya? I like Tamiya over Hasegawa myself.

Well they're both very comparable. Hasegawa has slightly better or finer surface detail and molding and perhaps thinner parts such as wing halves etc... The plastic is slightly harder and crispy then Tamayas which lends itself better to sanding etc... Just slightly though.  I've noticed Hasegawa kits generaly have thinner gauge sprue rails compared to most other kits even Tamaya. This lends itself to better detail level during mold process. Overall detail level are about the same, very close. Tamaya kits tend to fit better such as at the wing roots without filling. Some Hasegawas kits require a bit of filling here and there. Tamaya can put out an equivilent quality kit vs a Hasegawa for a cheaper price. Hasegawa kits kit a bit more, betweeen 5-8 dollars more sometimes. However Hasegawa has a much larger selection of variants and they routinely release special versions of their kits with uniq decals and markings.

All Tamaya kits available in Hasegawa also usually have better cockpit detail.

I would say Tamaya is my first choice because of price and cockpit detail (corsair is fantastic) then Hasegawa because of selection and bit better surface detail and plastic depthness).

Dragon-DML-TriMaster kits are like Hasegawa kits in detail and plastic just with slightly worse fitting. Then again, thats why they have model putty. They cost more than Hasegawa but they makes awsome kits and they make variants no other brand makes such as the Ju- series bombers. they make the best Luftwaffe stuff in my opinion. They make a slightly better FW-190 than Tamaya. Monogram ProModeller Ju-88A4 is actually a Dragon-DML kit. Italeri Ta-152 is also actually Dragon-DML kit.

If I cant sell these kits, I'll just be forced to keep them. ;) :D

For some reason I can't send you a private message or an email. I'm interested in some of the kits, if you could email me perhaps we can arrange a transaction.
Thanks.

Have any kits that would be good for a starter, Live in Miami, Looking to build a LW bird, and give another kit for a gift to an avid builder (he has almost all US Planes) suggestions?

Well I would recommend any the HobbyCraft kits from above, the 109s for a starter kit is good. The 4.00 monogram kits are also good starter kits. Stay away from the bombers and Hasegawa kits cas they cost alot more. What sort of aircraft does your buddy like or need? All the kits above are good or exceptional (based on price). Cant go wrong with any.

BTW: Tamaya makes the best Corsairs in any scale, period. The mustangs are all very close. Hasegawa makes the best p-38, then Minicraft Academy. In comparison, the shape and surface detail is almost the same cept the Hasegawa kit has just a little bit more cockpit gear detail. Ever heard of "Minicraft-Hasegawa" from about 12 years back. I think some of their models share a comon lineage. The monogram p-38 cant even compare (parts horrible fit, lots of putty and sanding). The Monogram p-38 is probably harder to build than the Hasgawa and Minicraft kits. P-47s are very comparable. There isnt a bad kit listed above except for the free ju-88a4.

The Monogram Promodeller kits are new kits with engraved panel lines. Only the P-40 has raised lines but it has additional detail. I like Promodeller as well. Pfff, the P-39 AirCobra is HARD TO FIND ANYMORE (out of production). Theres a P-63 KingCobra made by another maker but it isnt as good as the Promodeller IMO (for 1/48).

email me if your interested.
