Just killed a 4 1/2 foot Rattlesnake beside my patio. Went thru this last month with Copperheads. Living in the country has it's advantages, but I HATE ******* SNAKES! I used to slip out around Midnight, sit in the Jaccuzzi and watch the stars....I'm gonna look silly sitting in there with a spotlight and shotgun.

Wha....?? I thought you were from Texas? Ain't you ever dealt with them critters before? Copperheads, Water Moccasins, Diamond Backs were all things I had to contend with growing up. But I feel your pain bro!!

Yeah Diablo, I am in Texas. It just seems that I chose to locate my new house on the Motherlode of snakedom. I prefer my snakes Size 13-D. It's not too early for a drink, is it?

Move to Britain. We've only got 1 poisonous snake and I've only ever seen one once in 30 years.

Something else I've never seen except on TV: A cockroach.

LOL I had tons of Cockroaches, but a thorough application of Malathion/Diazanon ended that. My house is on a remote piece of my Grandfather's Ranch that was never used for anything except cattle grazing. My closest neighbor is 1 1/2 miles away. I belive this is where all the animals, insects and assorted critters that I mercilessly tortured/murdered as a child went to hide, and now they are exacting their revenge. That's fine, this winter I plan a little Naplam experiment to clean out the remaining brush.

A good dog in the yard will get rid of the snakes. I usually have ponds, and without a dog, they quickly become snake hangouts.

Out here, from what I've heard, dogs tend to get tagged by rattlers but cats do much better because they are much quicker and may even bat away a snake's strike. Though I've seen my fair share of ratters, I've never actually seen a dog or cat deal with one.

Same here, I'd frikken puke if I saw a cockroach. I'm told that there are rattle snakes near where I live but I've never seen one. Just those little wee green garder snakes.
