Hurricane Fabian...Help!!!!

I was in that one back in the 60's, but it was in Mississippi.  It was on my Birthday, in fact.  Our house was about 300 yards from the beach, just on the Longbeach/Gulfport line.  We stayed at my Grandmothers about 15 miles inland.  Did little damage to our house, because it was under water.

Also been in 3 or 4 on the Texas coast, too, but I would not stay in one now.  Good Luck Curval, maybe it will miss you guys.

ROFLMAO...coffee through the nose there...

Rip...I guess you are right...if it goes to Category 5 I will look into getting the wife and kids off the island.  But it is sooooo tough to say that it will definately hit even up to 12 hours before the storm here.  We are like a 22 mile long ship in the middle of the ocean...things can change in a hurry.

In 1987 there was a Hurricane called Emily that hit here...Category 3 I think.  The weather service told the island the night before that it was not a threat so no-one was prepared.  It altered course and hit at 7.15am.

I have a T-shirt that was done commemorating that one..it was captioned "The B*TCH came to Breakfast".  :)

Curval, ye better batten down the hatch. I have a bad feeling about this one.  This is one mean looking storm.  I hope it doesn't make that left turn and go right for Florida..

Good luck!

Not sure if this is the one you're talking about or not but in 1968 hurricane Camile blasted through the gulf. I was in Pensacola at the time.

Curval, good luck to you. I'm almost directly west of you on the SC Coast .

I was thankful to see the predicted turn. Hopefully it doesn't cause you and yours any harm.

That was it, Camile.  Lots of folks decided to ride her out, unfortunately for them.

Yeah, Camille, August 17-18, 1968.  The destruction was incredible.  Two things stuck in  my mind:  A car was stuck in a magnolia tree in our yard, one of our favorite climbers.  It was abut 30 feet up, and we found dead dogs and cats EVERYWHERE, and kept finding thier bones for years.

They just updated the map and it looks as if it will bypass us to the west.

We'll have a better idea tomorrow.

if your biggest concern is loss of net connection, you're probably in good shape. :D

but seriously, good luck and when in doubt be careful.  remember, "nature is a mother"

By the map they just showed at 10pm, the eye will not be going very far west of ya. Baton down the hatches!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
