the "page fault" box pops up. Here's the info:

Geez....see this thread.

If you make a decsion based on this BETA, then it is just plain silly.  I am sorry, but this is a first release BETA and no where did we say this is the final code.

And what about the "ACESHIGH caused an invalid page fault"
inputs above??  Is anyone going to address those posts?

It would appear, after reading most of the posts in this forum,
that there will be minimal "backwards compatibility" as far
as AH II is concerned. So a whole bunch of folks are going
to be forced to shell out $$$ to "upgrade" their perfectly
good systems or forget about playing AH II.
There is going to have to be ALOT more to AH II than just
more "eye candy" to make me want to put out more $$$
to stay in the game. I personally could care less about
the eye candy, and if that is what's driving the need for
higher performance video cards, then IMO it's not worth it.

It's the first release of the beta program.  There are going to be bugs and problems everywhere.  It would seem way too early to be talking about the lack of backward compatibility.  Give them a chance to fix it.    If they don't respond to the posts then they are probably working on it.  Give them the benefit of the doubt.

In a number of the patches we've had in AH there have been times that frame rates have dropped and people began grumbling about having to upgrade their computers.  HTC was able to fix those problems and frame rates came back up. Of course more computer is going to be needed for AH2, but you can't judge it yet until they get things worked out.

If they aren't posting to ask for more information then they may have a good idea on what the problem is and they are fixing it.  Of course I may just be overly optimistic today ;)

It looks to me that you guys are suffering from a combo of lack of memory /incorrect driver's that go to the path of initalizing your video cards ....

as of right  now 32mb video cards dont seam to have enough ummmph .. to play ah2

I tried on a 1 ghz amd with 64mb onboard ati video ... it also failed ...same sort of fault string

Really In todays gaming inviroment you need atleast a 128meg card.
Now dont blame HTC if you systems are to old and your to cheap to upgrade.
Welcome to the computer world folks.
What you buy(build) today will be out dated tommorow:eek:

 "don't"  "your"  "you're"

"Welcome to the computer world"?...well bozo, I  would bet that
I was dabbling in the "computer world" long before you were
 even born.
I've built up more systems than your average techno-dweeb.
I currently have 4 sitting here on my local network...the one
that I currently use plus the three previous "upgrades".
I'm not "cheap"...I spend more on symphony and opera
subscriptions every year than a new "super gamer system"
 would cost.
However, I played this "upgrade your system for the next
release of ___" game for a good number of years and I really
don't care to keep chasing the "eye-candy" hoop, which is what
appears to be the bait here. Your reply here was neither helpful
or informed. Such is the gene pool these days...

I stopped updating DX.xx when moving from DX8.0 to 8.1
PORKED my TV tuner in my ATI AIW Pro. It was a real PITA
getting all the trash that 8.1 put on my system OUT so that
I could revert to 8.0, which works just fine.

Should I decide to sticj around and upgrade my video card
when AH II becomes a stable product, then I
will try DX.latest-and-greatest and see what happens,
but not until then. Thanks for the suggestion however.

Gypsy, your problem is that you don't have dx8.1 or above.  AH2 is built on 8.1.
