What Presidential issues are important to you?
« on: September 27, 2004, 03:30:50 AM »
Heres the three biggest issues that will decide my vote:

(1) Environmental protection-  The oceans are declining...fast.  Alot more research is needed for sustainable harvest.

(2) Stem cell research-  A cure for diabetes, alzheimers, paralysis, and other diseases is probably in stem cell research.

(3) Growth of U.S. economy (in technological areas)-  I really like Bush's initiative with space exploration and fuel cell cars.  Think it will give the U.S. more of an edge in technology again.

Sounds like good priorities SunTracker. The two you have on top is something i look for when voting here too.

Economic growth is also important to me, but not at the expense of your first priority.

1) I dont know about fishing policies by either of the candidates.

2) Kerry is for more extensive stem cell research. But somehow I feel that Bush's stance on it is being used as a wedge issue during the election to draw out his religious supporters to vote.

3) I think Bush is the better choice for business and economic growth.

1) Federal government's record deficit - reckless, harmful to our   long term future.
2) Jobs/the economy/offshoring - I disagree that offshoring is good for our economy, that hamburger flipping can be considered 'manufacturing', and feel bad for all the hardworking Americans who recently lost the right to overtime pay (my wife included).
3) Iraq - what a friggin' mess
4) Healthcare/prescription drug price gouging - seems like a great percentage of the highest paid CEOs are always from healthcare-related companies - yet we lag behind all other industrialized countries in providing healthcare for our population, we gouge seniors on fixed income for drugs necessary to maintain their health, and I understand that healthcare benefit costs are one of the reasons job growth has been so sluggish.   Lots of room for change/reform here.
5) Energy independence - tired of being held hostage to a region of the earth filled with such wackos.
6) Campaign/Election Reform - big money has too much influence in government.    With that, and the last election fiasco I'm losing confidence in our democracy.

I'm not swayed a bit by President Bush's lip service to fuel cell cars or space exploration.   I have more faith in what Honda, Toyota and Ford are accomplishing on their own, right now, with hybrid vehicles.

Issues absolutely off my radar:  Gay marriage, gun control, abortion, and flag burning amendents.

The only issue I'm concerned with is McDonalds. For too long have incompetent parents, and people with a lack of self control, been subjected to the delicious fatty foods that McDonalds forces upon society and into the mouths of those that don't know when to stop.

We must force a healthy diet upon these lazy and those lacking the self control to not become over-indulgent. Time for McDonalds to drop the Big Mac, Double quarter pounders, and double cheeseburgers. They need to offer more salads, and instead of winning free meals, instead win a free month at a legitimate gymnastics studio with a full line of workout equipment.

For too long has this pandemic been allowed to expand our children's girth. We must fight the invisible menace that's terrorizing our youth, and self-indulgent.

This physique terrorism must be stopped now!

I saw a bumper sticker today. It confused me.

It said, "Visualise one term".. I thought it said team. Made sense if it was one team. One term, well, it kind of made sense. But team would have been better.

Underneath that, it said "Lick Bush in 04". I thought it said Kick Bush, kick Bush sounds better. It's not all rooted in the deep mysteries of licking Bush. Who would want to lick Bush anyway? That doesn't seem very fun.

Then I realised it was a chick driving the car, she looked dykish. Then it all clicked.
