New version and crash issues
« on: May 02, 2011, 03:19:30 AM »
So now I have to gv using my keyboard?? I had everything mapped to my stick and worked real well. Why do I have to use my keyboard now, another item I have to keep in arms reach! I am really not happy with gv's anymore, just a part of the game I will not be playing.

This mouse view thing really sucks. I never used it before and now it defaults to it. I changed it yesterday and today it is back to default.

Been playing since 2006, never had a crash problem. Since last update - 6 crashes! Twice during game start-up. I reviewed my CPU / GPU usage history and never got above 50%. I have checked firewall, no problems there. Whats up?

Please do not ban me for this post. I tried real hard not to offend any of the favorites on here this time. I know that I am not allowed to make comments like the select crowd on here and send my apologies in advance to those that may get their feelings hurt.

What does it take to be able to flame people here anyway?

So what's stopping you from mapping all commands back to the stick (views included)?

Might want to go to the Hardware and Software forum to ask help with the crashes, I have not had any problems and have not heard of anyone who did.

Map it to a hat switch, works for me.

You might want to look at crash reports in the forum, lots of them.

I have viewing on my hat switch and radio channels / teamspeak on my hat buttons already, not changing that.

So do I, chose another hat switch. As I don't need my airplane controls in a tank I changed those to GV controls.

Differential Brakes->Left & Right turns
Flaps->Accelerate & Decelerate/Reverse
Gear/Airbrakes->Full Stop
WEP->Full Speed
RPM->Range on the gun sight
Aileron & Elevator->Gun movements

Also read this:
The only thing that will be added is an analog control input to steer. You will be able to use either keys or rudder/stick to turn with. We are not going back to the old system. We will also be adding some display in the commanders position such as speed and gear.

There were a few on the first day but HTC fixed that or explained people what to do not to have them, I did not see any significant amount of crash reports since the last patch.

I don't know exactly what kind of problems your having, but when the update first came out a lot of people had a problem with AH closing right after opening, HiTech explains what to do to fix it in this thread: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,311761.0.html.

I think that particular issue was fixed when they went back to the B25 splash screen.

I have been getting the dreaded "AcesHigh.exe has stopped working" crash since the new update/patch.

This occurs when swapping between arenas such as the TA to LW, LWO to LWB, and Lobby to LW.

I wiped the HDD's and did a fresh Vista 64 Ultimate install again with all security updates.  Updated drivers. Only installed the latest version of Aces High.

When I accomplished this, the same thing happened to me last night.  I was able to fly in LWO for about 45 minutes and then swapped to LWB.  Within 1-2 minutes I got the dreaded "AcesHigh.exe" has stopped working.

I would love to figure out why this is happening.  I realize that not everyone is having this issue, but I know that there are some folks that are having it from conversations within the game with others.

NOTE:  I am running AH in the "Vista" mode (for lack of a better term).....It was suggested to me that I run it in "Compatibility" mode to see if that helps.  My question to that is why would the game run fine prior to the update and not now?  Perhaps, and I am only guessing, is that there may be some sort of an issue with the new update/patch.   I am NOT a computer programmer or claim to be one.  I just would like to figure this out so that I can continue to fly AH....the best simulation out there!

the game is not a 64bit application so running it in WinXP compatibility mode forces your 64bit operating system to run it in a 32bit sublayer...in very simplistic terms...you did disable some of the unecessary processes skuzzy listed for vista in the tech support forums didn't you? (i.e. superfetch, aero, etc...)

Gyrene,

Yes I disabled them months ago when I was experiencing a stutter problem.  Since the fresh install, I have tried with both allowing them to be running and to disable them.  The current boot up is in as close to XP as possible (all aero, themes, classic view, etc) as Skuzzy posted in the Vista tips thread.

What is confusing is that the game ran fine prior to the update/patch.  It is not now.

The game is very playable and enjoyable when it is running, but I am the type of person that wants to know why the program would crash as it does.  What is also confusing is that it works for some folks and not for others.

I figured, doing the wipe of the HDD and the new install of the OS would bring me to a point that crashing would no longer be an issue.

Quite puzzling and would love to figure it out!

BTW.....I am NOT a fan of Vista....but when I built the PC, windows 7 was not out and XP was rumored to be losing "support".....had I been able to see a few months into the future back then I would have stayed with XP and went to Windows 7 when XP was no longer supported.

Thanks for the suggestions on the processes thing.....I am sure there are others that have not tried this.

For those looking for Skuzzy's tips and haven't seen them they are located here:

Sounds to me like there is an up down issue with changing arenas. Will try get it fixed for this weeks patch.
