No active speakers found sounds are disabled
« on: October 02, 2011, 07:38:49 PM »
Having a major issue here. My SB XFi bit the dust so I am using my onboard sound card. It is working just fine however AH dont see the card.  :bhead I have done everything I can think of, uninstall then re install, re install direct X, made sure all the drivers for the onboard sound card are up to date ect.  :pray
Need some help if anyone has any ideas.  :salute

You may want to post your DXDIAG in the Tech Support forum

solar,

In the ingame sound settings,do you have the onboard card selected or is it still set to your xfi card?

Silly question yes! but worth a check!!

I am assuming you reset the devices in the games Options->Preferences->Game Sounds panel as they could be different for the sound device you are using now.

The game will not auto-detect changes in the sound system.  It will continue trying to use the old card, that is no longer there, unless you change those devices.

Thats the strange part. All the creative software is removed, the card as well. The game is a fresh load & it sees no sound card in the system. It has primary sound driver listed yet still cant see it.  :headscratch: I think there must be something left over from the creative software in the system.

 Solar,

what are you using for sound, headset or speakers or both and are they selected where skuzzy says?

Are you sure you plugged into the proper output?

Oh,did you install an old settings folder in a new install?     Now I'm really grasping at straws... :o  I had issues with sound when I went to vista so I know it can be frustrating, most my issues were solved by plugging headset into the rear inputs as the front inputs were hit and miss for some reason.

Copy and paste this line on the Run command line as an administrator:

devmgr_show_nonpresent_device s=1

Then open Device Manager, select View/Show hidden devices. If you find any Creative gadgets greyed, delete them.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Thanks, been using that for some years now. I have it saved on a memory stick as a batch file, so I can use it on my customers' machines. Copy/paste the following lines to Notepad and "Save as" "Devices.bat" under All Filetypes.

@echo off
devmgr_show_nonpresent_device s=1
start devmgmt.msc

In Vista and newer OSes right click and run as administrator, and don't forget to select View>Show hidden devices.
