Logitech 3D pro joystick?

im looking into a joystick (been using a mouse for two years ), and was looking at this:

i know that my squad XO has this, and he loves it. was wondering if anyone else has it and thinks similarly?

By far and away, it was THE worst joystick I ever purchased.  Almost 1/4 (and I'm NOT exaggerating) of the stick travel was in play. I was devastated, as I'd purchased it to replace my ailing Logitech Wingman Force stick which was no longer being made.

I'd suggest something (anything!!) else.

If you are looking for a cheap twisty go with a Saitek.  Not sure what models they offer off hand these days but the ST290 is like 20 bucks at walmart.  The 3D has more buttons, and a better feel, but the quality is absolute crap.

I LOVED this joystick when I owned the original Afterburner 2. I was very sad to have to replace it when it finally died after 2-3 years of use. The thing I liked the most about it is that it is NOT a twisty stick. There is a "rocker panel" on the back of the throttle that you use as a rudder, instead of having to twist the stick (or accidentally doing so when not wanted).
Don't get me wrong, I like my X52, but for under $50, this is totally my recommendation.

DO NOT get a 3d pro, I have one for a back up and I dread my X52 dieing.

i have a logitech 3d pro and for 21 bucks its great and works just fine for me. sure its not a great top of the line but wtf its just a game for me and 21 bucks is just fine!

I have purchased at least 20 Logitech Extreme 3dPro joysticks during the past 15 years. I still have 8 of them. All have worked very well right out of the box. Never had to return a single one. They generally last me about 2 years of moderate use. After that I start to see some "spiking", especially with the twisty (rudder) logic. When this happens I find that I can fix it by just "wiping and exercising" the stick for about half an hour, twisting and moving it around and around in little circles and every other kind of movement I can contrive. This seems to clean up the oxidation, etc. After that, I'm good for 2 or 3 months. After 3 or 4 years they gradually get worse, so I give them away. Always some youngsters around that are anxious to get them. Even when old and a bit loose, they are still good for training youngsters.

Others have had VASTLY different experience with this stick. I don't know why I haven't had any problems.

I still have my 3d pro sitting in my closet.  Really good stick. cheap too lots of buttons.

I use a 3D pro, and it's just fine with AH. However, it sometimes is frikkin wierd with IL-2- I have to check in the hardware setup after starting IL-2 to see if the stick is inputting properly- often the input, with the stick at neutral rest, is wildly off; either in the yaw or pitch axis. It's irritating as hell. I've found that killing the Logitech control software sometimes helps, and booting the computer with the stick plugged in already (and plugged into the same port every time) is important. I use a laptop, so this is more important for me to keep track of then most.

AH is less finicky then IL-2 (big surprise there, Ubisoft games are always weird like that,) but sometimes the same issues will crop up there. As long as you're aware of that problem, the Logitech 3D pro is a fine, reliable stick.

how well does this work on AH? it says it defaults for console games and IL-2

The buttons are buttons just like any other joystick last I knew, and can be set inside AH2. I think this newer version is programmable, and the older version was not, but I could be mistaken.
I really liked the old one in AH, especially since the stick was not "twisty", I had far more authority over my rudder control.

The Logitech 3d pro has been rebuilt and buffed up to take the punishment, per consumer complaints. They should have renamed it, but were trying to protect the name of those still on the market and unsold. I have had one for over a year without problems. They are cheaper, but if you can afford a $100 stick, go for it!
