Great comments by Rip, Animal, Nexus, and Sabre.
I have long described myself as a radical moderate, and am very frustrated with the right & left.

udie...I do disagree that Limbaugh loved to take on liberals. He was the master at creating strawmen..."Liberals say that...", and he would put words in their mouths or use weak arguments. No, Rush has never, ever been able to deal with intelligent criticism of his ideas with a live critic. He himself admits that his show is the most tightly screened that there is.
Anyone remember the TV show pilot he did? Gays and lesbians in the audience began to challenge him and he couldn't respond. He started sweating profusely and then stood with his back to the audience about 2 feet from the camera talking only to it. They had to clear the studio, let him shower, and finished the show with just Rush doing the only thing he can do...a monolog.
The only progressives that the corporate media are willing to allow on the air are the most boring, meek, insipid types. And only the most kooky radical ideas can be presented, so as to ensure that any radical change with merit is tainted and made ludicrous.

Any liberal talk show host---an anti-Rush--would be branded anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-Mom, anti-Apple pie, and would get no sponsors. If he were on NPR, conservative congressmen would gut NPR's government subsidy. It just won't happen.
