Until dolphins become smart enough to not get trapped in coves, they deserve to be eaten.

Personally, I like the idea of making sweet love to a dolphin. They've got a hole specifically for blowin'.

We have no way of knowing if they knew how close they where to going out.

But we knew and that was enough.

Would you agree with killing chimps for food?

Had we been like most other predators they would be gone by now. THEY ARE A RESOURCE, nothing more, and for us to harvest as we see fit. Why? ... Because we can.

And so there is the arrogance of man:(

I'm having trouble understanding that first sentence I quoted, so maybe I'm reading it wrong.  Sounds like you're arguing that pigs and cows are somehow not mammals... that mammals (including dolphins) are intelligent unless they're cows or pigs.

Sorry, I was a tad fuzzy...

Intelligence aside (I understand pigs are said to be rather intelligent) ... I meant dolphins and pigs/cows are separate in that pigs/cows are controlled and bred by humans.  From that, they are very 'renewable' whereas Dolphins in the wild are not as renewable... ie, they're not bred for food or controlled by/for humans.  Thats the only category separation I called for really...  again I agree that pigs/cows ARE intelligent... but based on my preference, cows/pigs suck compared to dolphins :D  Nothing very scientific about my arguement at all... I accept the double standard set for these two types of animals... and again, thats just me  :)

[edit]:  Alright, meat is meat.  I eat meat and thoroughly enjoy a juicy medium-cooked steak with A1 sauce.  But damnit, give me my dolphin exception and I'll be happy!  :D [/edit]

Nope not at all there is a very good reasone for Deer hunting in N. America.
Must keep the population down or the animals will starve in the winter.

In a few regions of the world, I'm sure you could.  They did it in DC, but their facing the consequences.

mrblack you need to realize that everything is relative to your location, culture, upbringing, religious convictions or lack thereof, and many many other factors.

Lighting farts on fire may be frowned upon in one region, but happily enjoyed in another.

Whale hunting is "bad" or "wrong" in some place, whereas it's a resource and necessary for survival in others.

I dont think someone scraping to survive is going to think twice about the poor little animals (except dolphins :D) if they're on their last leg.

Whales eat plankton!!
If there is no Plankton there is no ocean.

Hunting for sport and hunting for resources are quite different.
