Scoring/ranking suggestion
« on: September 25, 2000, 08:49:00 AM »
I was just wonderinng if it would be possible to have a score page for ranking the various squads in here.  I know that not every squad in here is interested in scores and such.  My squad is in it for fun, but I would still like to see how it stands in relation to the other squads in the game.

I know that there could be problems in ranking because all the squads aren't the same size.  Maybe split the rankings for squads with less than ten members and those with more than ten members.

Oh well, just a thought.

I'm sure you're aware of this, the K/D ratio for each squad shows up on the squad page.

Rip,

I know, but I am lazy and would like it all spoon fed to me

Heheh, seriously, I know about that.  It is actually kind of what gave me the idea about this.  It is kind of tedious going through all the squads just to figure out who has what k/d ratio and how my squad stands.  I am fairly certain that we are far from one of the top squads, but I would just like to see how we stand versus other squads and if we improve or what not.

Anyways, just a thought.  (though if it isn't implemented soon, I will quit heheheh, j/k  )

HTC would keep kill stats in a relational database (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and i bet that you could come up with the sort of queries that have been mentioned in this thread and then some....

I work with databases as part of my job everyday and its very easy to retrieve any sort of data against other data in millions of ways.
I get fustrated at not being able to do the sort of queries i would like to do. Im sure HTC can easily add some more queries to their database and some new perl scripts to turn the results into HTML.
Stuff like:
 - what plane do i have the most difficulty with
 - k/d versus plane types.
 - selecting data across tours - to see trends
 - number of refuels/landings (terminated sortie)

I could write a never endging list.

Perhaps we should compile a common list from all the community and try get HTC to implement them.

This is what is soooo cool about being a "below average" pilot (once, a majority of JG2 pilots were called "below average"). You can look at the scores, smile, and carry on!

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.
