Getting tired of the Nik
« on: June 25, 2001, 12:23:00 PM »
Ya know, it is really something when you come home for lunch in a good mood, and leave in a bad mood.  Thats the qway it is today anyways.  I came home flew a flight, and get nailed three times by 3 different people by nik head ons.  All except the last I tried to avoid.  I seem to remember that everyone squeaked about the Hog being to damn lethal, well atleast it was a counter to that damn paper kite the nik is.  Perk the damn thing or something, because it (nik) is really ruining the fun experience.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

I understand that some complain about the Niki's FM. I'm not too hot on physics, so I've no idea of weither they're wrong or right, but if you're getting HO'd, isn't that a failure of merge tactics/positioning rather than FM's?
If your merge is so poor that a Niki has a HO shot at you, wouldn't a Typhoon, Ta-152 or TBM have the same shot?

I can understand you're pissed, but I don't see the relevance of the plane? Were all three pilots members of a Squad you could lambast for poor ethics, perhaps?

Should the same happen three times in a row to a Wulf, would you still admit your failings in public, or work to better them?

Any other plane in AH can't do what n1k does, although spits come close. Not nearly as bad in any case IMO.

You see a n1k low and slow ready to be bounced. You start gliding down.. N1k sees you.. N1k pulls the stick and turns the plane 120 degrees.. N1k keeps the nose there waiting for you to dive down to something that was a bounce and now is a HO. N1k does not stall.

You pull up, setting for another run.. N1k finally drops its nose, snaps out of stall and is ready for another run way before you can get down again.

This can get very frustrating since it seems the n1k almost always has the option to turn the nose into a HO. And it does so 80% of the time.

If you make the mistake of actually HO'ing him, there's a good chance he'll shoot you down..

If you evade his dweeb shot, he'll outclimb you in 3 passes time and will force you to run. - Unless the n1k pilot is a complete newbie and LETS you take a shot at him.

The scenario above applies only to 1:1 situations and to planes other than spits / a6m. With those you can afford to turn&burn with the n1kki if you feel dumb enough.

Bodhi, do you really find any apreciable difference between N1K2J and SpitIX?? Yep, the shape and the colors.

Spits and A6M5s will all eat N1K2-Js for lunch.

In my limited experience in dealing with them in other aircraft they have to be respected, but are manageable.

LA7s own nikis.
The niki will almost always try to lead turn you to get a snap shot or a tail chase. Turn into him like a missed HO or a late lead turn. When he disapears under your nose let em go....
I often see little fluttering pieces from the niki If you miss him. he will be spinning to try to get on your tail. The next time he tries to lead turn (he will) he will be worried.....
Snap shooting during his lead turn at least with the LA7. almost totaly takes the nikis game away in 1 vs 1 co alt.
If it doesnt work then you have like 50 mph on him on the deck. If you cant wiggle out of his spray and prey and get away with that then the problems not the planes bud.
I have done the same tactic in a HogD when I had lots of speed at start. With the 50s you can start shooting even earlier in his lead turn and make life even more tough for him.
Nothing like getting lit up by 50 cal right during the start of your bread and butter manuver to make you jink the wrong way and screw up your world! Especially when the fire is coming from a high angle plane form shot..

N1K2 usage only accounts for 13.1% of all fighter kills.  If you want that to get higher, we are gonna need more N1K2 uber threads.

Gee what is the dot command to get this plane?  I have yet to see a N1K2 that wont stall.

And you should make up your mind, either it stalls or it doesnt.  Your two sentences above contradict each other.

Hurry up all....jump on the "Perk the NIKI bandwagon" while there is still room.

I can't beleive so many posts veer off into discussions of "How to kill a Niki".

That has nothing at all to do with the original poster's problem. He stated that he was HO'd three times in succsesion. In this case the respective handling of his and his opponants A/C are irrelevant, as the fight doesn't progress that far. His merge tactics are so in error, that ACM doesn't play in the equation.

Secondly, he wasn't just complaining of being HO'd, but of being HO'd by Niki's; which gives raise to the question what influence plane type has on HO's. If he repeated the same moves against a Typhoon, 205, Ta-152, Yak 9-T or any other cannon armed plane would he fare any better, and if so, why?

I'm stil curious as to whether he want's HO's disabled, or to learn a better merge.
