Computer....need help
« on: November 06, 2003, 02:28:04 PM »
I need some ideas on what kinda computer to get. I got specs from the CGW Magazine Lean Machine thingy. What do you guys think of that?

Are there any computers out there that are very compatible?

Like Dell or HP? I know HP isn't compatible..I don't even have any AGP ports

I need some ideas for what "SANTA" can bring me..:lol

I can give you at least one good advice: stay away from brand comps and build your own, you'll get much better comp for better price.

I'm sure you'll find more than enough advices on what parts you need and you don't have to worry about building it totally on your own, since I'm quite sure the stores will build it up once you have picked the parts to put into it.

mix and match what you need with what you can salvage from your old machine. (cd,floppy, keyboard etc.)
got to each manufactures web sites and look for the faq on any issues with the parts compatabilty.
order the parts from the cheepest source and put that puppy together.
Enjoy.

Can't do it for under 400.  Can do it for about 450 - assuming you have a spare floppy, keyboard, mouse, speakers and CD-ROM laying around.  If not, then add about 50 bucks to the price of the system linked below.  To add an operating system - add 90 bucks for WinXP Home.

http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=470578

I added good memory a about a 15-20 dollar premium, and a good motherboard so you can add memory and much better processors later.  Biggest hit was the radeon9600Pro.

MrBill - IMO those places are only good for people who know EXACTLY what they want and how to shop for it and how to read the specs.  I don't think Hawklore is there yet.

Right ya are BB.

However if you are going to build one you have to start somewhere.  This is why I listed the cheep emachine, ... just in case the learning curve might appear to large.

Hawklore do not skimp on the monitor either yours eyes will thank you for a lifetime.
