of the bomber have been painted out; however, part of the

Don't you just love it when some idiot writes a book and can't even correctly identify the aircraft in his own photos?

Those "P-47 Thunderbolts" are P-51Ds, and they're not circling, but entering the break. That means they've flown down the length of the runway and are now peeling off to enter the downwind leg of their landing....
