A guy my wife works with was sent these puzzles....
No-one knows (including me) what the hell the answers are.

Puzzle 1

An  aged  and, it appears, somewhat eccentric king wants to pass his throne on  to one of his sons. He decrees that a horse race shall be held and that the son who owns the slower horse shall become king. The sons, each fearing that  the  other  will  cheat  by  having his horse go less fast than it is capable  of,  ask  a  wise  man's advise.  With only two words the wise man insures that the race will be fair.  What does he say?

Puzzle 2

A woman goes into a hardware store to buy something for her house. She asks the  clerk  the  price,  and the clerk replies, "The price of one is twelve cents,  the  price  of  thirty  is  twenty-fours  cents, and the price of a hundred  and  forty-four is thirty-six cents."  What does the woman want to buy?

Puzzle 3

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet.  No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.

"The question is: Who owns the fish?"

Hints:

1.  The Brit lives in the red house.

2.  The Swede keeps dogs as pets.

3.  The Dane drinks tea.

4.  The green house is on the left of the white house.

5.  The green house's owner drinks coffee.

6.  The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.

7.  The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.

8.  The man living in the center house drinks milk.

9.  The Norwegian lives in the first house.

10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.

11. The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.

12. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.

13. The German smokes Prince.

14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.

15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

**Einstein wrote this riddle this century. He said 98% of the

world could not solve it. It's not hard, you just need to pay

attention and be patient.**

Puzzle 4

Two  men are talking.  One says to the other,

"I have three sons whose ages I  want  you  to  ascertain from the following clues. Stop me when you know their ages:

1.  The sum of their ages is thirteen.

2.  The product of their ages is the same as your age.

3.  My oldest son weighs sixty-one pounds."

"Stop," says the second man.  "I know their ages."

What are they?

Puzzle 1: Just guessing but here it goes: "Use his"? That way each heir rides another heir's horse, so he has to go as fast as possible.

"Ride his"?????

That doesn't make any sense...you can still pull on the reins and slow the horse down no matter whose horse you are riding.

"Run backwards" might work.

1. I WIN
2. house numbers
3. ill come back later when i've done it on paper (its not a riddle...its a logic problem...)
4. since we dont know the other mans age...
they can only be
11+1+1
9+2+2
8+3+2
7+3+3
6+4+3
5+5+3

and since the eldest weighs in at 61 pounds... hes at least 8 so that leaves us with
11+1+1
10+2+1
9+2+2
8+3+2

but since the man cant be under 18 that leaves us with
10+2+1 (the mans age is 20)
9+2+2 (the mans age is 36)
8+3+2 (the mans age is 44)

so out of those 3 choices im going to have to go with
eldest 8
middle 3
youngest 2

Yeah, but the slowest horse wins.  So if you "ride his" as fast as you can (and so does everyone else) it guarantees that all horses are being run to the best of their ability.

The puzzle wasn't for who would lose the race but rather who owned the slower horse. Ownership doesn't pass to the rider so each wants to win the race so that the horse they own will be the slowest.

Where'd you get that from?  I've heard of kids under 8 that weigh 100+ :D

It doesnt specify what culture/region they're from.  They could be pigmies or chinese or american or german, etc...  Weights differ at various ages =]
