Anyone have MechWarrior 4:Vengeance?
« on: November 12, 2003, 06:05:25 PM »
I've had it for a while, but stopped playing it when I hooked up a set of pedals in addition to my Saitek X36.

Now, I have two set of devices in the pull down menu and can only set ONE of the devices to be used in the game.

Either the Microsoft Sidewinder racing wheel with racing pedals is used as the controlling device, or the Saitek X36.

Is there any way to assign certain axes of either device to do a certain thing? Like the pedals of the racing wheel controlling the torso while leaving the Saitek Joystick to control the turning and up/down motion with the throttle controlling the throttle?

I could find no help from any site and this is apparently not a widespread problem so maybe I'm just doing something wrong?

If you're running Windows 98 or ME, you are in luck. Otherwise, nope.

I went through the X36/Pedals dilemna when I upgraded last time.

My solution?

Yes, I have Win98.

No, I can not afford a Cougar.

So basically, thanks to a lack of intelligence on Microsoft/Activion's part - I can't use both devices?

Okay, Wulfe... you need to go to the website called "stickworks" or something like that, and get Bob Church's driver for the X-36... it will patch your X-36 into thinking that the other input (pedals) is actually part of the same X-36.

It's been a couple of years since I had to do that, and it was a little complicated... but follow the directions and it should work okay for you.

There were some other system req'ments also, IIRC... make sure you read alll of the "Read me"s.

Here's a link for you...

http://home.att.net/~stickworks/swdownld.html#X36DRV04

clipped from the page:

"... X36DRV04.ZIP contains an auxiliary driver you can install to allow the use of analog rudder pedals with the Saitek X36. The driver only works with the stick in USB mode and only with Windows 98. There's a small text file, X36PDLS.TXT, in the ZIP that tells how to set the driver and get it running."

Thanks for the help Dux, unfortunately the rudder pedals that are part of the Precision Pro racing wheel are the Y-Axis and the wheel is the X-Axis - and both are the first device leaving the Saitek to the second device.

Think I'm just going to have to give up on getting the rudder pedals to work in MW4.

I would suggest not using pedals for MW4  I prefer either MS twisty or my Saitek..  If your use the saitek just map the rudder bar to the torso..

Then you have a very intuitive setup just like the MS sidewinder twisty which works very well for the game...

Great game just dont fall into the trap off piloting a assult mech around saying im l33t...

take 75 tons or less and be a real mechwarrior..

be shure to map a button to radar on/off and take a ecm mech if you want to really cause some havoc...

Great game...

HTC needs to license a world from MS and wizkids...

5-1 odds if HTC got  MS's front end to work on a 24/7 battlefield with stats and all the game would sell like hotcakes..

ohhhhh... I didn't realize you meant those kind of pedals. :)

Do you use that same setup for Aces High?
