Bastiges!

Neighbor of a friend (same floor of dorm) who attends UW-Madison got a notice from the RIAA.  I'll be getting a copy of the "official email" from him in an hour or so.

Apparently, he was caught sharing 461 files... 456 of which are text documents.  Not totally sure on all the details just yet.  I'll find out more tomorrow.

Octavius, your "friend" is a criminal who belongs in jail. Frankly I'm surprised you are still running free, given your advocacy for copyright infringement.

Maybe if you and your friend offer to join the Army and go to Iraq the judge might take it easy on you. I've seen your pic and you're far too pretty for prison. Take the plea bargin.

Just have Hortlund defend him.

hehe. well, with 5 files that potentially infringe ont he RIAA's rights, the solution is clear: the RIAA is settling these threats at something like $2/song.  you can figure that they're paying their lawyers and support staff a good deal of cash.  So all your friend needs to do is keep calling and arranging settlements.  Insist on talking to a lawyer. Take down names.  do everything possible to make it as expensive as possible.  Then settle for ten bucks.

You can pull the arsehat defense like that british hacker did when he crashed houston's port authority shipping computers becuase someone made anti american comments in a irc and his girlfriend is american or something like that.. (satire)

Ghost in the machine defense seems to be on the rise... (more satire)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/dorset/3168696.stm

If your in a dorm your off scott free, pass go and collect $200... (for educational purposes only)

Zombies are everywhere in the dorms..  Write the RIAA and tell them to fly a kite and piss off.. (you noticed your machine was zombied and are very sorry blah blah... it will never happen again etc...)  (more entertainment and fiction)

I would also suggest that u encrypt your sharing in the future..  I dont share (or cares who does really) but im against the DCMA and hence would love to use their own laws against them...  exp: if they break your encryption to verify your sharing they themselves are violating DCMA by breaking your code... and hence counter suit or criminal penalties...  Fight fire with fire ...  never scrap with the gloves on...  (rant for entertainment purposes)

2 cents...

DoctorYo

PS:  Muckmaw your a genius..  Combine my defense with muckmaws and your off free...  suggest your would never be caught dead sharing that kiddie garbage....   Lip sync N sync whatever ..  they suck..

wow. I'm glad I stopped using kazza...
Soulseek is much better and you don't get all that spyware crap:aok

note: stealing mp3s fights terrorism, as you are giving the artists less money to buy drugs with. And everyone knows drug sales fund terrorism.:D

Sued by the RIAA - NOT!
« Reply #14 on: November 13, 2003, 03:19:01 PM »
You do understand that there's no law suit here (yet).

Under the DMCA, the University is considered an ISP. ISPs can become liable if they don't comply by acting on the notice issued by the RIAA.
