What about rank?
« on: November 02, 2000, 02:56:00 PM »
The thread about scoring got me thinking... what do you all think about earning/losing rank as they have in Fighter Ace. Not saying we should have it in AH, just want to hear your thoughts on the matter. Also what about stars (*) for ace (5 kills without dying or having to change planes). Rank could reset each tour, maybe??

your thoughts

For those that want that? Sure Fine with me. And for those that don't? That's fine. I'm of the "don't care for it" clan.   Online "rank" carries no clout nor does it command any respect. Simply put, it's window dressing for the vaine.

I didn't like rank or aces in FA.  I didn't like the stars attached to your icon for aces, I didn't like your rank attached to your icon.

I always thought too much emphasis was put on rank and aces.

imho

If you want rank, join a historic squad that has nerdy guys who like to play silly games like that.

I didn't say I wanted it, just throwing it out for food for thought...

Rank belongs in squad ops, not in the entire arena.

Rank as in "visible to the guy you are about to engage?"  It doesn't work well.  I participated in a sim where they displayed rank and everytime a high ranking pilot appeared, guess who everyone attacked?

Hur hur hur.....

read the news......."While they will be player-controlled, it won't be as a helmsman. That will be done by inputting waypoints for the fleet to sail to. The player with the highest overall ranking will get precedence in positioning the fleet."

If that aint ranking I dont know what is....

Yup swoop, that caught my eye as well.  Means an awful lot of us aren't gonna get to control the battle groups.  I got the impression that the ranking used for that would be one's overall ranking from the score page.  Personally I think this idea for control of the CBGs needs a little more time in the oven.
