Help
« on: November 19, 2003, 06:51:21 AM »
I stupidly was playing around with the settings for my NVidia GeForce4 T14200 and must have done something really bad.

I can no longer even access the vid card utility screen...it won't run at all.

When I load AH I get a green band and I can see the wire of the clipboard...that is it.

In DXDiag the Directdraw acceleration is not availiable, The Direct 3D acceleration is not availiable and AGP texture acceleration is not availiable.

I tried to re-install DirectX...no go.

I have updated the drivers on the T14200 3 times.

Help.  How can I fix this?

Tried removing your Detonator Drivers completely? (NV stray file remover)

Try the program from http://www.guru3d.com - they also have good forums there too!

Detonator drivers?

I have no idea what they are...I'm not a computer guru at all..just know enough to be dangerous.

I just need my desktop manager to run, then I think I can fix what I did...I just don't know why it won't.

First re-download the NVidia drivers (in case the one you have are corrupted)

Then delete your old drivers using the add/remove program icon in your control panel (there should be a Nvidia entry)

Then get driver cleaner and delete the remaining trace of your Nvidia drivers

Reboot

re-install your drivers

Reboot

re-install directX

In the add/remove I have two Nvidia entries...one is NVidia Display driver the other is NVidia Windows 2000/XP display drivers.

Should I delete both?

No go.

Now when I look in add/remove programs I don't even see an Nvidia entry to remove so that I can try again.

Now I am really in a mess.

ARRRRGGGGGGGG

Stupid computers.

I checked the windows update and lo and behold there is Nvidia software update...but it fails on installation every time.

This is sooooo frustrating.

Well...I am truly buggered now.

My GeForce4 card is now not even recognised in the hardware profile.

If I try to add new hardware it states that the registry entries are incorrect or corrupted.

Now what?

Can I just do a regedit and get rid of NVidia altogether?  Do I deleted every instance of NVidia it finds?

Why a whole install of XP?

I'm thinking a new vid card will solve the problem.  This one has given me grief from day one.

I'm just a bit concerned about all of the registry entries nVidia has in my system.

Curv, what happened when you went into the "add/remove" applications thingie and selected the Nvideo drivers? Did it lockup during the uninstall? Did it complete successfully?

Did you try that "NV stray file remover" that Nexx suggested above?
