Search lights are pretty cool in il2:fb, well besides the fact they really are blinding......

would be nice to have search lights that followed a certain path, or have manual ones too, and if you passed through a beam then your screwed.

Here's an idea for nights:  make the night sweep across the map.  For example, sector columns 14-19 might be pitch black, with column 14 growing lighter and column 19 growing darker.  Might make for some interesting strategic choices if you know that most of the bishop's land is going to be covered by night for the next half hour.

Last time I checked, the light beam from a spotlight never killed anything.  And, the AA settings in A.H. are good enough; so, they better not increase the lethality of it in order to punish the unfortunate pilot that crosses through the search lights.

One quick comment... HTC ought to set-up one arena for permanent darkness and another arena for permanent daylight; then, let's see how many pilots hang-out in each arena.  That'll give HTC an idea just how much further they should push the night feature.  :D

Personally, I don't log off because of the night.  But, I understand that MANY pilots do.  :(

Great idea!  We should use this same method to improve other aspects of gameplay too!  For example, we should make one arena that has nothing but takeoffs/landings, and another that's nothing but air combat.  HTC monitors how many people play in either arena and decide what aspect of the game to delete!  I don't know about you, but I'm rooting for keeping the combat part!

We can also make one arena that's nothing but P-51s and another that has nothing but Me-190s, and so on, until we trim the game down to the one, highly voted feature.  I suspect the game will be refined to one perfect game:
  • P-51s only
  • No night time
  • No oceans
  • No landscape
  • No take-offs and landings, just instant action 3d furball

Good thinking, this'll be perfect!

Didnt say the spotlight would kill them, I meant that the ack would not shoot until something did get into the spotlight, then every gun would be pointed at that plane.

Get rid of the laser-guided ack, and it could work. Just don't put anything like that in the MA, imagine the whines.

It would be nice if flak was actually sent up by guns instead of just appearing, and it would be nice if you could be pinged by it, rather than flying through it for 20 minutes without a scratch and then dying suddenly.

I know what you meant Raptor.  :aok  I was just being a smartprettythang.

Like Corsair was saying, as long as the ack isn't exceedingly accurate, everything should work out alright.  That's one of the points that I was trying to make earlier.
