If you have a sense of humor . . .
« on: November 25, 2003, 05:24:21 PM »
This Friday night (November 28th) I'm trying to get as many BBS viewers as I can to fly P40s . . just for the hell of it.  I think it would be a riot to flood the Main Arena with the highly underestimated Uber Army Plane.

Anyways, I think the Nomads (and my other squad whatever they are called) will be eager to do something pointless like this.  If any of you other guys have a twisted sense of humor like us, I suspect you may have fun.

To everyone else - I suggest you take a 262 and shoot us all down!

If yer willing to give "Honch's Night of 1000 P40s" a try, I'll see ya there this Friday starting at 9:00pm est.

A word of warning:  If you are not a P40 driver, be prepared for unusually long flight times.  What would normally only be a single beer flight  to a furball may now take 2 or 3 beers . . so stock up your refrigerators accordingly.

I really don't know why the P-40 has the stigma of being an out of date fighter and being considered more of a novelty than one of the 'premier' fighters in the game.  After all, there were more P-40 aces in the PTO than there where P-51 and P-47 aces combined and the four P-51 aces in the PTO, two became aces in the P-40 before transitioning to the P-51.  Only the P-38 was flown by more aces than the P-40 (in the PTO by USAAF).

i found it to be about equal (with the 2x.50 cal load) to the fm2 during my squad's last "dweeb week"

for those of you not in the know we fly LW only except the first week of each quarter (after scores reset) ie: first week in april, july, october, january.

the only reason i didn't fly it more is i have a Fascination with blue planes and CV battles.. they are soo fast & furious so fm2 / seafire / Chog are planes of choice for me LOL

This weekend I flew the P-40E for the first time in many months. Two sorties, killed 8, lost none. It's a decent fighter as long as you manage your speed carefully. It'll dive with anything and almost out-climb a ruptured Bluejay....

thats actually what has bothered me about it.

you know the shimmy or shake in other planes that you achieve when reaching critical speed?

that does not exist in the p40's or f4f/fm2 ?!?!?!

try it. load the old dueling arena ofline and take off at the 15k base. climb to 20k then WEP nose straight down. you will never get "the shakes" and be able to pull out 90% of the time

actually HTC is the vmax speed modeled in those planes (ie wings rip off at certain speed like 650mph or something?)?!?!?

Knowing that any Ni sponsored event is sure to be filled with ewes and good times, alas, I'll be at work.  SOE has a policy of no rest for the wicked.

Yea JB73 that was me.  I would have really enjoyed a fair fight vs a 109E.  I recall fighting 2 Typhoons and your base ack then that 109 came in that I just couldn't shake off of my 6 for anything.

Good flying! -S-

You talkin' P40B or P40E?

Not sure if I'll be back in town or not, but heck, I might give it a shot.  The last time I had success in the P-40E was when I was doing base defense over my own field at less than 10k.  Bagged several Spitfires as they tried to outturn me.  Since they were coming in from above my head, they had too much speed to make a tight turn, so I'd cut'em off at the pass and drill'em with all six .50cals. :D

Other than that, the P-40E is just too slow for any long-range stuff unless there's a good show on the tv to watch during transit.

Just exactly what is this P-40 you speak of?
