I’ve been watching the “Baa Baa Black Sheep” marathon on the History Channel today.
Here is what I’ve learned:
Aircraft gun range is 100 feet - maximum.
Zeros only have cowl guns.
Aircraft guns shoot at a 30 degree upward angle.
Six 50 caliber machine guns at 100 feet range will only cause a zero’s engine to smoke or catch fire.
Fights can go from 3,000 feet to 12,000 feet in 2 seconds.
Zero can easily catch Corsairs, even if they are 7,000 feet lower.
If a Corsair has a zero on its tail, it should do slow rolls and lazy Eses. It should never dive.
If a zero has a Corsair on its tail, it should do slow rolls and lazy Eses. It should never turn sharper than the Corsair.
If you perform a slow roll to the left to throw off your enemies aim, he will perform a slow roll to the right.
All combat between zeros and Corsairs takes place between 150 and 200 mph.
The crew needed to keep one squadron operational: 12 pilots, 2 mechanics, 6 nurses, 1 doctor and 1 cook.
1940’s hairstyles, slang and fashions were exactly the same as they were in the 1970s.
