Talk to voss

Why would he do that?  I assume you were making a joke, because that is what voss is.

Hint:  He is full of **** and wasn't a fighter pilot, nor any of that other crap he said.

Eagl used to be on these boards, and he IS a fighter pilot, F15 driver, etc.  But he is banned now, maybe you can find him on AGW.

As much as it sucks now, studying is the key.  If you apply yourself and make the grades, you can be whatever you want.  I realize that sounds cliche, but it's true.

You don't want to realize you have to spend the next 40 years doing something you don't enjoy all because you spent 4 years screwing off.

Well If you go The Sniper route it IS very hard to get there.
Lots of competition In both th USMC scout sniper school and the US Army sniper school.
In The Army You Must be an enlisted man.
And In a combat arm MOS.
Vision Is very important.
Must be a none smoker not only cause the training is hard but a smokers cough can give you away.

And one thing I found out.
out side of the military law inforcment community you will have a hard time using you'r skills.

You really want a challenge?
Go to college then Med school then accept a commision in the Army and they will pay for everything.

I have a nefyew that did that He Is set fer life.
:aok

point Is use you'r mind not you'r body.
While Being a sniper Is rewarding in it's own way There are parts of the job that stick with you and haunt you.

Plust If you don't make It In Sniper school(only 200 a year do)
Then you'r stuck doing some grunt chit.

i hear ya both, i know studying is the key, if i get good grades i can be anything, lots of hardwork to be a fighter pilot or sniper, im very competitive in the hobbies i do, i wana be the best at what i do, be number 1,

which is why i wana do something i love and enjoy doing, my vision is perfect, and i dont smoke, also ive talkd to alota people and i agree with you 100% being a sniper its hard to find jobs after your done being a sniper,

though if i enlist in the military i plan on staying for life until i have to retire, not really looking for a challenge, just something i love to do,

Pilot and Sniper are both of those, though im leaning towards Pilot, 1 thing i know i definetly dont wana get stuck with is the grunt chit, ive heard far to much about that.

Whatever i Choose im giving it my all ill tell you that much! Anyways thanks fellas

Maddog,

Pilots are Officers. That means a 4 year degree in either the AF Academy or do it through ROTC at a university near you. LOTS of folks in AFROTC want to be a pilot and the competition is tough. Grades are very important and you NEED to apply yourself now and for the entire time you're in college. Figure on a technical field like aeronautical engineering for the best shot. If you're not math inclined then make sure you do well in the major you pick.

Think of it this way, whatever major you have should be salable in the outside world. If the pilot gig doesn't work for you then you STIL have the degree to do something else with.

In the Army you can be a helo pilot as a Warrant Officer (between Enlisted and Officer Ranks), they are specialists in their field for the Army.

Plan for as many contingencies as you can for your education. You likely won't have much oportunity to do it all over later.

Good luck
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Well, I'm in pilot training right now madddog, so I'll tell you how I got here and you can draw your own conclusions on what you need to do with your own life.

Step 1, if you're a junior in high school and haven't started seriously thinking about where you want to go to college, you're behind.  And even though it's a painful four years, don't count out a service academy.  The Air Force Academy gets as many pilot slots every year as all of ROTC combined, so almost everyone who is medically qualified at graduation gets a slot.  No matter which route you take, you have to be an officer to fly a military jet, and that means you need a Bachelor's degree.  Start looking at the application process, Academy or ROTC, ASAP.  You might be surprised how much you have to get done.  Waiting until senior year will be waiting until it's too late.  SAT/ACT scores are a big factor, but not the only factor.

I hate to be the one to say it, but math is probably the most important subject for you to do well in.  You can major in anything you want to, the military doesn't care what your degree is in.  But if you want to fly, there is a lot of math involved in figuring out how long you can stay airborn, how much gas you have, where the center of gravity is on your plane, how it will change when you drop a load of bombs, etc.

What it boils down to, I guess, is that you're not going to be able to just walk into a pilot slot.  There's always a line of guys waiting to get it, and you have to push yourself a little harder to stay near the top of a very long list.  If you're willing to put in the effort though, the military will put the time and money into training you to do one of the coolest jobs in the world.

Now that the lecture is out of the way, here's how the pilot training process works.  First, you get a Bachelor's degree and get commissioned.  Then you'll go through Introductory Flight Training (IFT).  IFT consists of getting your private pilot's license in a Cessna 172 or something similar.  That's the screening program.  From there you'll go to Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT).  By the time you start, I'm sure the T-37s will be all phased out, so you'll start flying in the new T-6 Texan II's.  After about 6 months of training  in the T-6, you'll want to get into the T-38 track.  The T-1 track is for people going on to fly tanker/transport aircraft, the T-38s are for people going to fighters/bombers.  You'll spend another six months in T-38s.  At the end of that time, you'll graduate from UPT and get your wings.  You'll also get your assignment for which plane you'll make a career of flying.  Before you get there though, you'll go to Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (IFF).  I'm not sure how long IFF is, but I think it's only about 3 or 4 months.  That's where you'll learn a lot of how we fly fighters in combat.  After that, you're off to learn how to fly your F-15 or F-16 or whatever it is you want.

Of course, this is all based on you joining the Air Force.  Obviously, there are some differences if you want to fly for the Navy or Marines.  Sorry I can't tell you more about life in those branches, I only know the way I'm doing it.

This was a really long answer to say that you need to get started early and keep working hard all the way through, but there you have it.  Best of luck, I look forward to serving with you some day.

Please re think about wanting to be a sniper.
Besides the crap It does to you'r head you have to think of the stress It puts on you'r body as well.

I am only 46 YO.
And I have had sugeries on my right knee, left elbow, lumbar 5 sacral 1 and now rotator cuff on left shoulder.
All of this from crap I did In the Army.

I am old way before my time unable to work as a paramedic anymore and forced to open my own buisness.
thank God iI had the help of family to get me started.

Otherwise food stamps fer me.

Ps It will Screw with you'r head trust me.
You will have to pass a physc test to see If among other things If you can Kill another human being will looking at him!
It sounds easy It aint.
It Is very personal You Pick the time and place where that person dies.
In a sense you are playing God.
And you must live with that and alot of good snipers can't suicide rates are HIGH.
