Lock up
« on: November 26, 2003, 02:17:20 PM »
I have been trying to get on AH & when I try to play online my puter locks up. I can't ctrl alt del out of it. I can fly offline & I'm not having any trouble with any websites or my email. I had to turn my puter off & unplug it to restart it. I also re-booted my cable modem but I still can't get on AH online.
  Any suggestions?

You probably have a firewall blocking the ports AH needs for online play.  The 'lockup/freezing' is caused by Windows blocking and waiting for a response from the server.  It will eventually timeout.
AH uses a random set of ports in the range of 2000-5000 for UDP/TCP.

I am betting you have ZoneAlarm and you did the most recent update!

I did and the same thing happened.  The problem is I tried manually as well has have ZA configure AH automatically but to no avail.

I fixed it by removing ZA and loading the next-to-last version.  DO NOT allow the program to update itself!  AH works fine now with the older version.

PS:  IF anyone out there knows how to get the proper ports openned up in the new version please let me know!!  I looked all over and could not find where I could configure that aspect of ZA!

You cannot configure the latest version of ZA for many online games.
This latest version is bugged as hell and many complaints have surfaced on the Zone Alarm users forum.
ZA are aware of the problems and "said" to be working on it.
