My kids want a game console fer Christmas, amazed we held out this long. Question is, X-box or PS-2.

Don't know much about these things and don't really care much, figured there's some expertise here.

Recommendations?

I have a PS2 and like it. I've heard the X-Box is better if you are going to play online.

PS2. Or even better, what Sunking said - a PC. A console system will teach him nothing.

Kids makes it difficult with one computer... for a console I would go with X-Box.

Most of the popular games on the PS/2 (atleast the ones I like) are available on the X-Box (GTA:Vice City and GTAIII, and they look better on it), plus Halo is on the XBox and Halo 2 is coming out sometime next year. All of the worthwhile football games are on the XBox. Friends of mine are big soccer fans, they played Fifa for a while but stopped for some reason.

It really depends on what your kids want to play, XBox is Microsoft so bear in mind they have money to throw at game developers if they want a certain part of the market.

go with the ps2...theres a wider variety of games on it...and the controllers will actually fit in there hands

PS2, more games, and you can play the old PS One games on it also.

PC is the best, but if they truely want a console, go PS2. it's great. dont get an Xbox made by Micro****. the PS2 has better games anyway.

It depends on the age of the children. If I was going to by a system for me it would probably be the X-box. But when I went shopping for a setup for my daughter I got the PS2. It offered a lot more titles for her.
My advice, got to where you will be buying the games in the future, be it Walmat or whatever, and see what type of games they have for who will be playing with this system.

Word of caution. I have both a PS2, and X-box. I bought the PS2 first, 4 months later it quit reading the CD's.

I sent it in, and I still havn't got it back yet. That was 2 months ago. However, they did tell me that the laser died. I don't know if I just had a bit of bad luck and picked up a POS one or not. I bought it new from Best Buy.

But anyway, that being said, the PS2 has alot more fun games than the X-box does.

Hey, I NEVER said I was Santa.

Geez, these kids ALREADY have a PC. With a better display than mine. But they want the console and dad's a softy.

I am torn. Although PS-2 has more games (particularly for little girls), the X-box has more controller ports, ethernet and graphics power. I gotta look at the game line-up more closely, but prolly gonna go with the X.

Get an XBox.

PS2 has a very high hardware failure rate, and an absurdly high cost.

The XBox has better graphics, better online capability, four controller slots so four people can play, and now the game library is just as good as the PS2. There is even a better version of Grand Theft Auto for the XBox (not that you want to buy that to your kids

)

An XBox and the Prince of Persia 3 game, thats what I would get them. A gorgeous game and they actually have to think if they want to beat it.

There is also the Gamecube option. Its cheaper, and has plenty of VERY good games. Better for small children too. It has a very good wireless controller available for $35. The graphics are almost as good as the XBox, but it has very limited online capability. The Cube goes for $99 and comes with a disk with old Zelda games. Games run for about $30 - $50 new. Prince of Persia 3 is also on the Gamecube (I never get tired of recomending that game)
